I GOT MY TALON ABOUT A MONTH AGO, AND WELL... I'VE ONLY DRIVIN IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK NOW. I KNOW THEY BRAKE DOWN A LOT, BUT COME ON(!!!)... IM GOING TO BRAKE DOWN SOON.
I PICKED IT UP FROM THE SHOP TODAY, AND THERE WAS APSOLUTLY NO POWER. I WAS BEING TOLD IT WAS OK, EVEN THOUGH I KNEW IT WASNT, AND I WAS A LITTLE UPSET THAT I WAS BEING TOLD NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT, BUT IN MY STUPIDITY I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHIN SMALL, LIKE A VACUME LEEK, THAT I COULD TAKE AND FIX AT HOME LATER. WELL, I GOT ABOUT 15MINS AWAY WHEN IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE.
IM IN SCHOOL RIGHT NOW, SO MY DAD HAS TAKEN CARE OF ALL OF THE BILLS SO FAR. NOW HE'S TELLING ME I HAVE TO SELL IT. I REALLY DONT WANT TO, BUT WHAT CHOICE DO I HAVE?
IM REALLY SORRY FOR GOING ON LIKE THIS, AND FOR IT BEING SUCH A DOWNER TOO, ESPECIALY FOR MY 1ST POSTING.
THANKS FOR LISTENING, I THOUGHT SOME OF U MAY BE ABLE TO RELATE.

So are you asking for help? If so you have to give us more detail and post in the help me section.

If you can't afford the car then you can't afford the car. A talon is not the best car for people that don't do their own work or are in school.

And lose the caps.

I'll be doign a compression test tommorow to confirm what I suspect.

like vince said if you can't afford it then you can't afford it especially if your dad is paying for all the bills so far. i'm in school as well and my car breaks down too, just recently my callipers went and i had to get it fixed, that cost a lot of money...i don't know if that helped or not; knowing that other people are having as much problems as you or even more. just recently in the yorkdale meet (my 1st time there) i met people who also had problems with their car/s. that made feel a little bit better knowing that i wasn't in the boat alone...i hope it does the same for you...but it will be a shame if you have to sell your car, then again you have to set your priorities and choose what in life is improtant. also if you sell your car now you can always get one later when you can afford it. i hope that helped

my buddy had problems like that too, he has a 93 N/T and the first week he had it the timing belt slipped, then he started having problems with his starter, and his clutch....and the list just goes on, between fixing it, insurance and his payments well lets just say he dosn't have that much cash

your best bet would be to just sell it and wait till you can afford the car, schools more important right now

every car has problems, new VW's are check-engine-light trigger happy, SLK's have power top problems, hondas rust quicker than any other car i have seen, supras have head gasket issues, grand prix GTP's have tranny issues as do Acura 3.2TL's and accord V6's, maximas have coil pack problems, camry's have starter issues, etc etc
and surprise surprise, talons have a few issue here and there, mine has been the most reliable car,.. just take it to some one who knows these cars, fix up up right the first time, and maintain it properly and it will last you a long long time.

want a car with minimal, if any issues? get a lexus, even an old one, or tell your dad to help you put $3k down, $199/month and you can get a brand new tiburon, under warranty and problem free.

its a tough car when it comes to investment, but it makes for an awesome project... i have learnt more over this car then i have with any other. You just have to be able to afford it, if not scrap it

Yep they are expensive to fix, but what other car can you modify like ours and spank all those expensive cars out there...
My turbo died again,,,now putting in that 16G,,,great but have to upgrade injectors, fuel, exhaust all at once now. So big bucks for sure, but I can't wait for that kick in the pants when I take it out once this is all done...
I am having a hard time paying for it as well..I am even worse shape then a student,,,,working on a divorce..I thought $60hr for a mechanic was expensive,,,try a lawyer at $250hr....
Thought about that Tiburon deal as well, but I would miss my AWD too much.
Well I hope it works out for you....timing is everything....going to be a cheap Christmas...

Hey Gene,
Sorry to hear about your car. The reason your first engine died was because of lack of oil. Your car was burning it and it dried out and a piston put a whole in the block.

What happened after the swap? If you need help, I can come by and give you a proper hand. It could just possibly have been an inproper installation of a part. Anyway, what happened to make it break down again? Everything just seems to be maintenance/install problems.

The Talon is a great car, but like they said. You need a good job or the ability to do the work yourself.

My Talon served faithfully for three years and then the engine and transmission went in quick succession. I'm not a "motor-head" myself, so the coin was necessary. mad

Get something reliable, and when you have some cash that you can burn, get your love fixed.

I know your dad wants to sell it, and I know you need a car for school and I know you are tight for cash but man oh man, these cars become addicting to work on. This board is your best friend if you decide you want to keep it and learn how to do the work yourself. there is almost nothing that hasnt been done, or disscussed or anything that hasnt been well documented here or on other dsm boards before. I would keep it and take the bus for now. I realize school is important right now as well but who says you cant have a hobbie while you study? As for parts, the wanted to buy section and for sale forum is like your parts store. You wont find parts anywhere cheaper than posted here. (for the most part) Its a big decision to make eh?

My car has had Soooooo many problems since i bought it 6 months ago. CV joint went. fix it. Find out turbo isnt working. fix it. then tranny bearings screwed. fixxed it. CV joint went again. then i go through 4 alternators and a bettery in a little more than a month. Oh now the brakes are done, time for new rotors and pads. Then timing belt slips.. bye bye motor. now it is getting the build up ive been dreaming up for it. all in all i have probably put into the car about $5000 in repairs on top of the $7500 i paid for it. But i dont regret it. Its a fun car and will continue to dump money into the bottomless pit.

There is a bottom of the pit - it's when you have replaced everything except the frame, body and interior wink
