Hey guys & gals.
I have bad news.....my DSM got damaged on Saturday morning.
I love my car so much, BUT I don't know what to do with it. Fix It freak OR Part-It-Out confused for cash.
My Insurance will not cover it....apparently I caused it and I have 1-way insurance.

Here are pictures :

Side Fender was Slammed In. Windsheild cracked in bottom corner. Hood raised, but no damage.
[Linked Image]

Driver's door jammed.....
[Linked Image]

Pedals squashed together....
[Linked Image]

It looks like the only holding the wheel to the car is the shock.
[Linked Image]

I will try to check my PMs here on the board.....
I prefer direct e-mails.... : JKatranis@sympatico.ca

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? FIX OR PART-OUT ????
Thanks In Advance for All Of Your Input(s) & Comment(s)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dude your car is toast, even if you somehow got everything back to shape it would probably pull to one side. IF you have the tools i would say pick up an awd shell from the junkyard "$500" and swap your motor into it.

That will be way to much to fix , your lower control are is a pretzle, probably need and a spindle with buying the spindle youll probably need a wheel bearing. A rim fender plus they'll have to strighten everything out. By the in car pic it looks like that wont be easy.

Part it. Your insurance doesn't cover it, then you need lot of time and $ to fix it back to the origin.

Part it. Definitely. Fixing it would be a MAJOR pain (and expense). It may take a while, but you'll eventually be able to collect a good chunk of change for all the various sellable parts. You can then use that dough to help in the purchase of a replacement.

If your a-arm ripped out, that means the k-member is toast. Everything is fixable, doesn't look like it has any heavy shell damage, if you want to repair it and are handy-capable it shouldn't cost you allot at all.

HUH confused

Are you looking at the same pictures everyone else is? You saw the pedals, right? The buckled floor? You think the rest of the car is OK?

For the amount you can pick a straight shell up for now, fixing that one is a waste of time/money.

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

sorry to hear that

Johny,

for this car to be fixed, the entire dash and the entire engine must move out. Movement of the pedals means nothing but that the firewall is completeley fucked. These cars don't have a chassis to line sh!t up. once the uniframe is fucked good luck fixing it.

It is not badly out of shape. every piece might have moved just a bit. but the problem is there is lot of those that have moved I am sure. That is why a frame machine doesn't do anything for the dented firewall. I am almost certain even if the cars market value was 30 grand an insurance company would have called that car a write off.

It is now legally a write off anyways. this VIN can't be on the road again until throughly recertified.

Jordan,

Nasty.

I would politely ask your insurance company for access to the claims adjusters report to ascertain what specificaly needs mending and what the repair estimate would be in his opinion. And get his/her name. Express your emotional attachment to the car and that you are thinking of having it fixed yourself but would like a professional opinion on cost by area. I'm guessing he saw 1990 and didn't bother. Explain that you may want to salvage the car and would appreciate the adjuster meeting with you to explain why he considers it a write off. Buy him a coffe or beer or something to entice him to come for a second look while you're there.

Try and work with the person and it may give you an idea as to the cost and labour required to fix it. Then it's your call not theirs.

However, per the other posts if the frame is damaged you may find all kinds of hidden fun down the road. And if you can't do the work yourself then you'll have to go with the adjusters repair estimate. The car is worth less than the cost of repairs in their opinion, hence they have written it off.

Settle down and get as much information as you can before you make a decision.

PS. Don't forget the daily storage cost for wherever it is, so you can't mull over the decision for too long.

Good luck and let us know.

Cheers Tony

The adjuster has not even come for a first as far as I know.
Since I have a 1-way insurance policy, and apparently I caused the accident the insurance carrier is not responsible for any repairs to my vehicle.

Anyways, I'm having I hard time beleive my favorite car in the whole world is now gone. Still haven't decided what exactly to do. I told my dad that I will most likely part-out the car; and the next day he told me not to do anything yet, because he thinks he wants to fixs it.

For sure part it out. That way you wouldend up making money in the long run... well at least not loosing as much as you would if you were to go through insurance. Over time with the extra $$$ you will be paying a year its better off for them not to know part it out and start over...

Jordan, how old are you and how long have you had your licence? I ask for insurance reasons.

Did you look at the same pics I did? That car will never be the same, get another one and part this one. Tell your dad to spend 20 mins thinking about exactly what the parts will cost and how he's going to make anything true again. Maybe then he'll realize it's a waste to attempt to fix it.

Don't waste your time fixing that... its a lost cause. She's DONE.

Get the money from insurance, and part the car out. You can buy another one in much better shape.
