I had talked to Con a few times by email mostly and finally got to see his car run at SIR,Saskatchewan International Raceway. He lives in my home city.
He did great and won the class.I marked down his run but misplaced it and think it was 11.8 at 125mph ,forget his 60ft .Not sure if he is on this board anymore.
I also haven't a clue what his current mods are.
I think he was running a buschur 20g but think moved up.
I also got to see a few more guys cars from the board..a very nice red talon from manitoba and nice black one from Regina also.I didn't get to see all the runs the red and black 1gs made so not sure what bests are maybe the owners want to chime in.Chris and Dan..
No 2gs running and there were no srt 4s,or wrx or stis..not that many cars running but it was still fun.Maybe they will get some more cars entered next year.
One thing to note is that Cons mph was faster than a lot of very fast v8 cars showing that a big turbo dsm can still be a force to be reconned with. Example 500 engine hp 99 Camaro SS buddy was trapping 115mph ,huge turbo v6 grand national was at 119mph. Hell a twin turbo Big block 2nd gen camaro was trapping 130mph that day.
It was super hot out too and that had to slow down the cars quite a bit.
Anyway seeing those talons flying down the track really made me wish my car was up and running.

Yeah, another weak showing in the sport compact class again. What was the total count Al, 9, 10 cars? I would have been up there to watch but I had camping plans already made.

This is the 2nd year in a row Kon has won the SC/Import class. There was no import day last year, due to the ****ty turnout in 03. That goes to show you how weak the car scene is here.

Chris (red awd) hade some valvetrain problems and broke his intake cam. Did Dan make it to the final? I heard conflicting stories.

There wasnt very many cars but there were the three dsms there. Chris ,Dan and Con. Dan ran some times all over the map and Con and Dan had one run where think they both ran 14s not sure what was up with that one unless it was a test and tune run. I think Dans best was 12.5. Think worst was a 15.
Didn't realize you could break an intake cam..wow!!
I do think our dsms are not the best race car. I would not hesitate to run my 96z28 or 80 trans am back to back quartermile runs all daylong and expect zero breakage.I am starting to think go a bit mellower on my 2g to keep the breakage factor down to reasonable level.
I am not sure why the import turnout is so bad. Most import guys mabye dont' go to the track, maybe they didn't offer big enough prizes.Could be bunch of reasons.

Hey guys, i ended up placing 3rd after red lighting in the semi-finals. Had some bugs unfortunatly, first I couldn't get the car to launch, found that the power wire to the water injection solenoid broke off causing me to run very lean. Got that fixed hit a 1.7 60' with a 12.5 et at 106. Next the 4 year old clutch is pretty much done. Seems to launch ok but after power shifting into second it starts to slip. One pass I was feathering it in 4th gear and it was like i was in neutral. Congrads to Kon that car is f'ing moving!!

Dan its always nice to see another DSM out at the track, its been a tough couple of years for the rest of us. Once you get the car sorted out, you will be giving Kon a run for his money and the title!!

I should be out next year for sure, its been a long time coming.

Congrats again go out to Kon for winning the class in his FWD machine! He was just a hair shy of the 125 MPH, but did click off the 11.8. Very impressive to watch him run.

I had the car out for the first time of the year and it wasn't too successful. Not one clean pass! Best pass was a 11.92 where I missed 4th and fumbled around for .6s before finding it again. I was realing in fast on a GN that trapped 125 that run (I slept at the light), so it would have been a damn good time if I found 4th!

Next pass out is where my problems arose, a little 3-2 shift ended my day. Ruined the intake cam, sheared the head off a lifter and shattered 2 rollers off of the rockers. Thought it was a lot worse than it actually turned out to be.

Sorry guess its Kon not Con. Also Chris how about a mod list from you. I would ask Kon but think he likes to keep things secret. Not sure if you other guys are like that. I am trying hard to figure out what to go with for my 97
and it helps to see what people can run with various combos.
I didn't realize a 3 to 2 could cause that kind of damage. In our fourth gen f bodies it usually just causes some bent pushrods. You can help the problem out in them with stronger valve springs.

There were the two black regals at the track. The one is a v8 think small block chev with nitrous and the other is a true t type with big aftermarket turbo on it.The v8 regal won its class for fastest street car on street tires.

Not sure where the sports imports allowed to run any tire they wanted as would think Kon had drag radials on his front wheel drive to get that time and if not then his car should be capable of a lot faster times.Fwd spin a lot on street tires usually.

Kon is running a pair of slicks on the front of his car. I believe he said he was cutting 1.9 60ft times. Pretty decent traction for the shape the track was in as it was pretty slick.

The mod list is too long to type out, quick overview is 20G, 9:1 motor and VPC/GCC. All other bases are covered.

Well, I don't think a normal 3-2 would cause that, but when you're in 3rd already over 8k and then hit 2nd, you're looking at a huge jump of RPM in a fraction of a second. It probably knocked off a rocker or two and then on the next pass, thinking everything was fine, a loose rocker probably took out the rest. By the way, I already have stronger valve springs, I just need to learn how shift again. Talon is my only MT car and I haven't driven it much the past 2 years.

Basic mod list is 2.4, crower cams, 60-1 t3/t4 with way too small 550 cc injectors and a very tired centerforce clutch. This winter I'm going to step up to some 85lbs injectors and start turning up the boost. I've read so many conflicting posts on which clutch to use I'm not sure which one i will end up picking. If anyone cares to share good experiences with their clutches I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks, Dan

Dan, if you have some funds to throw at it you might want to look into a twin disc.

i wish i could have made it up to watch the drags. i had other plans already made though, so heading up wasn't an option.

i'm glad to hear the dsm's were in full force kicking ass.

i have to give props to dan, as he's a very nice guy! i walked up to him at the yorkton drags, and he answered all of my questions with pride and joy, and didn't have one bit of sarcasm or disrespect in his voice. (i was the guy with the 2g talon)

people here in yorkton are still talking about your talon dan. you're labelled as the "4 cylinder that ****ing went".(Y)

Thanks for the props Ryan, Yorkton was a blast and I'll be there again next year for sure. Chris I'm definatly considering one of the twin disc setups, we'll just have to see what the bank account looks like when its purchase time. If not I'll probably just go with the act 2900.

Thanks for the mod list Dan and Chris. Dan since you live in my town and since I am building a 2.4 and have hks cams and plan on a 60-1 or something big this time around would really like a ride in your car even with the 550s and hurting clutch.
I am so torn over what turbo and stuff to get that would like to see what a 60-1 at least feels like. And also what a 2.4 feels like off boost and stuff.
