Hi! After breaking in my new clutch (ACT 2600) for 800km, I decided it was time to test it out. I did a hard launch at 5k RPM. The car spun the wheels, and then, I think I got some rear wheel hop. There was a banging sound coming from the rear. Sounded like something was going to break. Is this possible on AWD? I got the stock turbo and I'm running 15 PSI so I'm not making a lot of power. Also, after that I got a noise coming from the drivetrain, like two pieces of metal are scraping against each other. Sound like something is loose under the car. Did I break something?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the carrier bearings. I saw the VFAQ about it, but I would like a better solution. I don't think silicone will last long. Could I just go to the dealer and pick up new carrier bearings? I don't think they are expensive. What do you think?

I had the same problem on my car but it was the rubber bushings that sit between the bearing and the body. I found some 3/16" rubber sheet and cut out some new washers and the problem was solved.

Conrad, just a little tip. Never ever go to Satan (Chrysler Dealer) for anything. Order parts from these guys. Usually the price is under 1/2 of local prices after exchange and shipping ! http://www.worldparts.com/tallmits/ Just tell them you're with Club DSM. ------------------ Fast & Awesome Handling '90 AWD $h!tbox

Hey guys, I was plagued with the AWD rear wheel hop syndrom aswell.. After replacing both hanger bears (they've been miss-labled, carrierbearings are actually in the rear dif..) I still got it under hard launches. It's actually caused by your wheel hopping forward and backward in the wheel well, and can only be stopped by crappy tires (read-no traction) or replacing all the suspension bushings which would include all 4 upper and lower control arm bushings and especially the trailing arm and subframe bushings (which I think are dealer only parts). Allthough, if you only launch at the track, dropping tire pressure down to 20psi seem to help quite a bit aswell. ------------------ Now officially DSM-LESSnineteenpoundsallday91 AWD tor-pw1.netcom.ca/~lowvolt/specs.html
