On a 1g, I took the AC fan out to make space for the FMIC piping.
Even though AC is shot I am pretty sure that when the fan was there and I turned on my AC the pump would click in. I could tell by the car loosing power or idle being affected.
Yesterday, I tried topping up the freon, as I was told that AC should still work without the fan.
Mind you most of the freon leaked out, because I suck, but when I turn AC on, I don't get the sluggishness I did. At idle the RPMs drop, but only because the other fan kicks in.
Is the AC fan required for the pump to start up?
What's a goot place to pick up a smaller sized fan, something cheap and easy to install.

FWIW:
All my A/C equipment has been removed, however the idle still drops when I hit the button.

My idle still drops too at idle, but I don't experience the slugishness when driving.
