G/f's got a 1991 Talon TSi AWD Auto. On occassion, under light accelleration from a stop, it'll flash the check engine light, and hesitate/stutter around 800rpm. I've found that if I put the gas to the floor for a second or two, that it will behave normally (note, not rev sky high, just start increasing RPM's, so I let off to a normal throttle position).

* Changed the plugs, they seemed fine
* Cleaned the K&N filter that was horrid when we got the car
* Changed the fuel pump

At this point, I don't have a means of checking the codes from the car, but am looking into a Data Logger, etc. But am looking for some ideas.....

You could use an anologue meter and the service manual to read the codes. Its the easiest way to hear what the car is trying to tell you. Next best is someone local with a logger.

Yep, even the Haynes manual has the info you need.
Turn to section 6-09 according to my short-term memory.

...What were we talking about again?
Oh yeah... You can use a 12v "piezo buzzer" to listen. They should have one on the shelf at The Source.

Chances are it will throw a code 23, Cam Angle Sensor.

Also, could be the fuel filter. I see you changed the pump, but not the filter.

Got the Haynes manual, but not the buzzer, will give that a try. My mistake in my post, changed the filter but not the pump. Perhaps the pump should be next.
