I was actually just on my way to school today, when up ahead at some lights I see a black 01` T/A Firehawk LS1. It was the ram air. Stock they are 345 hp / 345 tq. About 3500 pounds. He said he had full exhaust and headers, and guessed around 400 hp~. I revved a bit, and he laughed at me. I was running around 21 psi on my 16G, untuned. ie. Rich as F. Anyways, I'm not really a big launcher, so I pussy it into first. He squeels a bit and I gun it. From 1st -> top of 2nd I had about 5 cars ~. He actually had good traction too. He was definitely WOT, but he had some help on the rear, which looked to be about 300~ wide tires. I shut it down and he pulled up beside me again. This time I was in mid third. He then gunned it without warning, and about a second later I did the same. He started with about a 2 car lead on me, and by the end of 4th we were dead even. After he rolled down his window and said "man.. nice car." wink Felt good to actually run something I had no idea how I'd do against. It's no Cobra SVT (Ali), but still a nice kill none the less.

Nice run David.

Those stock LS1 are nuts. Running 13.0@110 all day. They actually run pretty close to the stock SVT cobras which run around 12.8@112.

Yea, so I thought. Maybe he couldn't drive, but he chirped into every gear.

My car is gutted, so I would have a few hundred pounds on him. Not too sure. tongue

Good one tu

I had a run-in with one of thoes recently.
Same as your 3rd gear pull - but just as I was getting my freight-train on, he slammed his brakes and turned into a housing complex. frown

Nice run. Those SLPs can be very fast.

Now, the other question is, why does everyone race with an "untuned" car. Is it really that hard to tune the car up? lol.

300hp Talon to a 50hp Citroen. Lovely ain't it?

Good run. I have 99 trans am with about 400 engine hp and 96 z28 with around 325 engine hp
but also have a cam and zex 125 shot waiting for install smile .
And of course my talons.

A non turbo car is much more dependent on altitude. At our local track ls1 run nowhere near 13.0 at 110mph more like 13.4 at 106.Its around 1800 feet above sea level. Lt1 are usually low to mid 14s stock. And traction is very hard to get with them unless you run drag radials like nittos on the street and drag tires at the track. They do have a lot of midrange and top end. The lt1 are not slouches either but the ls1 is definitely faster stock for stock. I have not really had the chance to run my cars against each other but sooner or later will give it a go.
Now racing standard cars is always much harder than racing autos. Lots of guys with standards especially the muscle type cars have zero clue how to drive. They will race in dumb gears like fifth or sixth on the highway ,not downshift, not take the car to close to redline etc.
I beat faster cars in my auto 96 z and 80 ta all the time due to some of these mistakes.
Talon guys seem to be a bit more knowledgeable about shifting and downshifting and taking it up to redline. Maybe cause off boost most turbo cars are really slow so downshifting is critical.
Anyway good runs..
