So I was on my way to Shannonville Drag Strip on Friday afternoon. In the middle of nowhere on the 401, practically no traffic. Me and two other guys see this BMW. We see that it is the M3. I was cruising at 130kmh, slowly pass it as all three of us are staring at it. I thought nothing of it considering most BMW drivers are old. After I pass, I get in the right lane and he pulls into the left and starts to pass me. I still think nothing of it. When he is just in front of me he punches it and takes off. When I realize he floored it, then I take chase. He taps the brakes and I go flying by at 200kph My friend gave him the thumbs up, but I was embarrased that it could have been considered a ricer fly by. He comes up beside me again and we both slow down to about 120. As soon as he goes I drop it to 4th and floor it. Tach only goes to 5000 RPM and he is pulling away like crazy, so I reach for 3rd gear. 7000RPM!! I keep in in third till about 7500 and try to catch him. Still no hope for me. We do a couple more pulls and shut it down. My friends were giving him thumbs up. He gets off at the exit I was going to get off at anyways, so I followed him into the gas station. He said he was 38 years old. Apparently is has 330hp. I didn't realize it was that high. He said he only challenges cars that he thinks will be a challenge. I took that as a complement . I think I set my standards too high because I hardly ever win races on the street. I need to challenge a civic to boost my confidence. Anyways, lots of fun.

lol, no I didn't challenge him to race anyways. He challenged me.

I have a big 16G (I am not saying that 7500rpm is a good idea) I didn't realize downshifting to third would rev so high.
Just having some fun on the highway.

The AWD is at a disadvantage on the highway. Mine was fairly stock but was an impressive car for thrust. But when I matched up against other 'capable' cars on the highway, like Integras and V8's, it only held even. I always wanted to see what it would have felt like with serious power.
A FWD would have been a better match in those conditions.

Like I said, I was near stock. But I remember running briefly on a rural road at 220km/h, my cousin in his sister's '92 (old style) Integra *automatic* every step of the way. It surprised me.
The Integra GSR or Type-R would be a capable highway cruiser, and more fun in the twisties.

My car wasn't slow, but was still stock. And this was on a rural road already at speed. In comparison, a neighbour bought the GSR I'd been looking at in 'Why did you buy your DSM?'. Same road at lower speeds and I was always right behind him. But they can keep up respectably. Respect the M3's, yo! They'se gots mo money than we do! *Laugh* And right now, anything beats my '88 Tercel.

First of all guys, a Type R CAN take out an AWD DSM on the highway any day. They weigh 2600 pounds and make 197 HP, 1G makes 195 HP or 210HP for the 2G and both weigh around 3100 to 3250 for the 2G. Now people are probably thinking the "Very Torqueless Economy Car (VTEC) honda motors make no torque, well at over 100KPH and a 8200 RPM redline, you don't need torque at that point, its pure horsepower wars at that point. Having all of that said, a Type R Integra will walk a DSM on the highway (AWD DSM or keep up with a FWD if not beat that as well). I am talking about stock VS stock. The GSR will keep up with a DSM on the highway as well, again I am talking stock for stock. People just under estimate GSR's and Type R's, but sorry to say they can keep up with DSM's if not beat them on the highway. The M3 is a low 13 second car and trap around 106mph. They are very fast cars and if you can beat one, you can beat 90% of the cars on the road.

(that is why Supras kill everything on the highway ) And that is why big cars always want to race AWD's from a roll. However the awd rotating mass is a big disadvantage on the highway. I believe you when you say a Type R can beat a stock AWD DSM on the highway. But not because of weight differences. But how many "real" type R's do you see out there anyways. I've seen a million Type "R" Cavalier's

Ha! I put a new air filter, plugs, wires and fuel filter on it, Nate. Took it from 60 to 65hp EASY... I was actually starting to get used to it, thinking it wasn't that bad. Then I rented a Corolla for a day. The Tercel SUCKS!!! John, I'm not comparing anything to anything. I just said that it could stay right on my tail, and that my car could also ache to pass a newer GSR at 140km/h on that same road... A near-stock DSM is running out of breath just when the Honda VTEC engines are starting to catch theirs. And it's not gross weight that matters, Randy. It's the power to weight ratio. And you're right, the AWD rotating mass (and it's dead weight) lower it's HP at the wheels, and lower the power to weight ratio. Just means you need more mods.

M3s are quick. There are no arguments against it.
There is no way even a modded DSM will out run them.
2 Simple reason. Gearing. RWD.
We Max out the revs at about 260. Without the speed cut, they can go all the way to 280.
Being RWD also means less drivetrain drag, which means they can use more of the 330hp that they make.
There is nothing wrong with 7500rpm on 3rd and 14b.
I only use 3 gears on the drag run. and I trap 13.4/102mph. 4th takes me over 200km/h.
300hp Talon to a 50hp Citroen. Lovely ain't it? Back to another Mits. A Mirage Cyborg as a future 4G63T candidate.

There is no way even a modded DSM will out run them. I think MY modded DSM would have a good chance at it.

I've read some ridiculus things on this board but this has to be top 5. I've embarrased many M3s from E30-E46...
