First off I would like to apologize for this posts length, it might get a lil LAPpy...
I'm driving to work already 25 minutes late so I'm a lil ticked off but nothing serious. This friggin guy in a Volvo SUV is tailgating me so hard all the way to Dundas its driving me nuts. We finally turn onto Dundas, he immediately boots it out into the other lane to attempt a fly-by... I simply don't allow such a thing, and it pisses him off. Rather then accept hes going to be second he accelerates all the way to roughly 160kmh in an 80 zone just to cut me off at the last second. It gets better though as I'm approaching my right turn into work, guy once again moves from the far left lane into the far right turning lane (cutting me off) slams on his brakes so hard and without signaling, that I am forced to swerve 2 full lanes over to avoid a serious rear-end collission with him or an innocent driver in the middle lane. All this so buddy could get his morning cup of coffee at Timmies???
Anyways I suppose I could have just left it at that, but I was PISSSSSED OFF so I went and waited for him... As he was about to leave the drive-thru I quickly swooped in and blocked all exits... He started going BALLISTIC inside his car. This non-violent resistance went on for a couple minutes until he managed to (no word of a lie) drive up on the curb to get semi-around me, but he still wasnt free of this predicament. I calmly smiled and asked, "Oh sorry, I didn't know you were in a hurry" I think this comment lead to a catastrophic meltdown of good judgement in his brain cause the sh!t that came out of his mouth next was fuckin ridiculous. He gets out of his car and starts screaming at me: "I'll drive my fuckin car however the frack I wanna drive it bla bla bla... I responded with "Relax you balding fat-ass I'm just here for the donuts"... His face turned a new shade of ferocious red with that comment, and more nonsense sh!t started flowing from his mouth. After a few minutes of him blabing and me throwing in witty jabs I decided I had enough and let him through and I went on my way... Funniest part was when I was leaving he kicked my rear bumper... (OOOOH OUCH) I got this dudes license plate number I kinda wanna pay him a visit but I havent decided yet... Anyways theres my story, sorry for the length.

Ya it happened at Dundas/Neyagawa
BTW, I've decided that I am going to find his car at night and put a huge pink 72pt decal on his car that simply reads: DOUCHEBAG...
So if anyone can show me how to find his house via his license plate that would be right wicked. Thanks

Some guy was following me on my ass with his highbeams on one night, I pulled over let him pass and followed him to his house. He's lucky he was an old man, he only got a verbal beat down.
The slamming on the brakes is always fun, then don't let them pass you, also having some kraft singles handy to throw at their windshield works amazingly.

Heh, it would have been more satisfying to have found a witness, and then set him up for a visit from the friendly neighbourhood policemen. Let him see what 'they' have to say about, "I can drive how I want..." and vandalizing your car.

I let them pass to a point. If someone is just being a dick I'll usually do something creative. But I'll never put anyone else at risk doing so. I've seen some people take things way too far and put all other cars on the road at risk.

Creative eh? How's this?
Had a tailgater a while back in the summertime. He was all over my ass, and wouldn't pass me, just some kid being a dick after I passed him further on back.
So, without warning, on a straight stretch, I pulled into the oncoming lane (no cars coming) slammed on my brakes, let him by, then rode his ass with my high beams on for about 5 minutes before I came to my road.
I hate tailgaters. And Nigel, I hope you nail the guy!

That douchebag decal would be pretty sweet. I'd suggest deflating his tires if you find him. Maybe printing off a license plate to cover his that says douchebag since he would probably not notice and drive around with it.

Nigel take a deep breath relax maybe have a beer because it isnt worth the aggravation. I have had my share of idiots and like Mike sometimes get "creative" with them but once things have calmed down and you think about it then it really wasnt worth the potential aggravation or risk. I have no problem messing with a guy but if it turns ugly then you have insurance claims, police reports, tow trucks, body shops, hospital visits etc. Maybe I am just getting old but I have no problem getting into it with the guy at the time but all the headaches after are a waste of my time and for what?
I think the idea is that we are going to teach these idiots a lesson and next time they wont be assholes. Well most likely we are wrong and next time they will still be assholes.
Going up hurontario just before burnhamthorpe I see the traffic is bumper to bumper and stopped at the other side of the intersection so I slow and stop at the green on my side. A less attentive idiot behind me blows his horn and pulls out from behind me up to my window to "comment" on my driving ability. I say buddy where exactly do you think you are going, whats the rush? The traffic is stopped and we wont get through the intersection. Buddy has the joy of being stuck beside me for the next three sets of lights as we crawl along. He gets an earful of crazy motherfracker from me asking how he is doing and look how fast we are going over the last hundred feet so what was I thinking making him stop at the green like that. It comes down to him saying so you think you can take me and me saying without a fracking doubt my friend, he sees the crazy look and decides he better shut up and rolls up his window. He squeals away at the next highway exit and I am pretty sure that when he gets home he will be telling his buddies about some idiot in a Talon who doesnt know how to drive. The point? None! Dont waste your time.
Every day I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.

If you believe in Kharma, he'll get what's coming to him. If you don't, a set of 4 deflated tires will do the trick. j/k

On the highway, what I used to like to do when someone was tailgating me was downshift and engine break... the inevitably pull out to the next lane to pass (and "stare me down") when they do, I wave and leave them in the dust... Then slow back to my original speed... really seems to piss them off knowing how fast I could be going, but just not bothering...

Nigel, I am agreeing with Jerry. He has a point; it gives you nothing but trouble. So why don't you take a cold beer and try to think like: "DUDE HE DOESNT DESERVE MY TIME". But if it happens in the hwy, simply let him pass then give him the high beams. Save your self from trouble and don't look for it my friend.

I saw more stupid driving yesterday than I have ever seen in my life. And these people don't care much, because they're never told differently, and the police don't really enforce the 'small rules'.
In LA, I noticed they rigidly enforced keeping streets and intersections clear. RIGIDLY. So the traffic just did it. I sat yesterday and blew a nice little song on my horn to two witches who blocked me in at an intersection. Of course, they were mad at ME for having the audacity to honk at them. Until people calm down, THEY are the ones in the right. In their heads, anyway.
But most people can barely drive, let alone drive while keeping track of how to best interact with other traffic.
The 'violence' quotient is why my father keeps two 1.5" thick 2' nylon rods behind his driver's seat. If he's ever threatened, it's beat-down time.

Dono but were you blocking the far left lane??? If that is the case; I do not think that he was right but you should of moved over and let him by.
Your action are what a typical bonehead would do. Road is not yours, if someone wants to go by, let him go. Makes it easyer for everyone.

Geez, Ghis... Is it that time of the month? Nigel's no angel in this. He was speeding, but this guy sounds like he was trying to drive along at 'unsafe' speeds. It's not nice, but if I'm going 20 over the limit and some guy is tailgating me wanting to go 40 over, I'm not going to be in a hurry to let them by. Besides, on those types of roads the 'Keep Right' rule doesn't apply. It sounds more like Nigel got upset at this guy flying past him, then cutting him off and jamming on his brakes. I get a tad miffed when people do that as well. If you're going to pass me, you'd better be able to keep your speed up...

Nah, not that time yet.
Troy, I put a buck on it; He was in the far left hand lane and the other guy did want to go.
Perhaps he was to stupid (other guy) just to pull over the right lane to execute the pass.

Troy, how did you come to realize that you doing 20 over is OK, but someone else wanting to do 40 over is unsafe? Sounds sort of like anyone going slower than I am is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac.....
And I didn't realize there WERE roads where keeping to the right doesn't apply? I thought the Highway Traffic Act (at least in Ontario) applied to ALL roads.....
I am in agreement that people shouldn't drive like morons, but I WILL BRIEFLY tailgate someone to let them know I would like by...and if they DON'T move over, I WILL pass them on the right, and will not give them the courtesy of a signal when I pull back into their lane in front of them..

I just use that as an example, Zig. It might sound arrogant, but the "I'm driving safely and you're not" usually fits. Like what Sean just said? THAT is definitely useless behaviour. 'Tude' is the biggest detriment to good driving I've ever seen. And most police will give you 15-20 over the limit as a 'safe' buffer if you're a good driver in a capable vehicle. I must admit, it's getting harder to make the distinction now that I'm 'getting older'. Some young 'punk' passes me in a sportscar going altogether too fast, and I start to wave my cane and wonder where the police are...and then think, "That's what *I* did at that age. He's alright. I'm just a little slower." So I can see how most older people think, "70kph is as fast as ANYONE should drive on the 401, because that's how fast I'M going!" So if someone blasts past me doing 160kph on the highway and I'm doing 120... I'll think they're driving a bit too quickly, but concede the point. Now if I'm driving through the middle of town doing 65 in a 50 zone, and some guy wants to blast past me doing 80? Forgive me if I want to help prevent an accident waiting to happen and contribute to slowing them up a little. Drive fast, but drive as if you expect your brakes to fail completely the next time you go to use them...

I dono Man. I never put myself in that position. Now how can someone tailgate you if you are not blocking his way... That is why I stick to the right lane unless I'm passing or turning left. I normally cruse (freeway) around 120/125, use to do it between 140/150 but throttle back since. In town I rarely go 15 over and stick to the limits in residential area and school zone. I much rather let the idiots be ahead of me so I can clearly see them rather than having them behind me. He wants to go, I wave him by, go buddy go. Clear the path for me, let me know where the cops are. Ghislain.

Troy and Ghiz, I hear you both, and I have to admit, I have slowed down a fair bit also. Not that I think I was driving unsafely before, just that I don't think I can afford what the tickets cost these days.... I just think if EVERYONE left the left lane for passing, half of our problems would be solved. I think that is the SINGLE biggest difference between driving in Germany and driving here. I also think if the rules on "hogging" the left lane were enforced on tenth as much as the rules on speeding, the roads would TRULY be a safer place.

He defenately should but he did not. In that case I sometime give him the 4 way, that tells him that I do not enjoy the fact that he is tailgating me and get into a other lane to pass.
We are defenately not living in a perfect word. We should also try to remember that their is some serious crazy ppls out there.

Agreed...there is NO reason to tailgate someone in the middle lane, ESPECIALLY if the left lane is open. If someone did THAT to me..well, last time I jammed on my brakes for about a tenth of a second, just enough to get a little chirp from the tires....and the guy backed WAY off.....that was about 25 years ago, and I am pretty sure that he never got that stain out of the seat..

Ahh, but Ziggy, I'm starting to see more into Sean's situation now. It's a case of trying to enforce your 'slower traffic keep right' rule. It sounds like he was waiting for Sean (the slower car) to pull to the right like he's supposed to.
I used to do this sometimes as well (although I didn't tailgate, I flashed my brights), but when I saw someone in a left lane on an open highway, I'd stay behind them and 'remind' them they're supposed to be in the far right lane in that case. That's the discipline. Even if you're doing 200kph, if it's an open highway, keep to the right.
I could go into a rant about the reasons, righteous and/or stupid about left-lane hogging, but it's been done before. I think the two most ridiculous people I ever saw on an open highway wouldn't pull over, so I passed one on the right. Pulled left, and slowed them down gradually until we were almost stopped (no other traffic). Then I gave up. (This was a 'librarian'-looking woman who you know couldn't think for herself when driving.) The other, when I slowed in front of them, would then pass ME on the right, and pull right back into the left lane (this was WITH traffic). Even with more cars backing up behind them, they just wouldn't take the hint.
Now roads like the one Nigel mentioned, and certain parts of highways, are exempt from this rule. That's where you want to be in the lane that permits easiest access to where you want to go before you have to change over. Like a left exit off a highway, highway splits in two, etc... A lot of people can't make this distinction.
But like I mentioned earlier, after having driven in SoCal, where lane discipline is non-existent (motorcycles, both civilian AND police) drive on the lines to go between cars) and seems to be more based on how long you plan to be on the highway, I can see how they can make that system work if EVERYONE does the same thing.
Just like those videos of traffic in India and the Far East. Unfortunately, when something DOES go wrong, it goes VERY wrong.

I am a strong beleiver in the slower traffic keep right rule. However, if you are in the middle lane and the left lane is open that's just fine. If it's a 3 lane highway the middle lane is acceptable because if there are a lot of on/off ramps the far right lane the merging traffic can be a pain for normal drivers and mentally challenging enough for the driving impaired to be dangerous. There is no reason to tailgate someone in the middle lane if you have the lane on the left to pass. If you are cruising in the fast lane while the other 2 lanes are open and you are not passing anyone it should be legal for anyone to run you right off the road

I like Mike's idea..run them off the road...LOL I just pass to the right, because I have come to realize there is no point trying to educate these morons....they are too stupid to be on the roads, but our government allows it anyways....more income, I guess... In some areas motorcycles are ALLOWED to ride the line between the lanes,..motorcyclists here have been lobbying for it for a long time, but I don't believe it will (or should) happen in Ontario.

It is actually legal to pass a vehicle using the/a right lane but illigal to overtake by using the right lane. Their is a slight difference between pass and overtake but anybody that has good driving habits will never have any problem with this one. Now lets see who chimes up??? Ghislain.

Hey Nigel i can get you a valve stem tool so you pull out his valve stems. That will really piss him off, pull all four, he'll have to go buy new stems lololol. i also have a really big knife that goes through tires like butter its been tested. But makes a very very loud noise after u pull the knife out.

Perhaps you didn't read the part where I mentioned I was in the middle lane of an OPEN hwy, thus meaning both the right lane and left lane of me were wide open for passing.
