I would like to start by saying tx to the admins and mods for the creation of this section. Also tx to Rob Greer that has agreed to send me some information relating to this project.

Plan is for me to rebuild a spare 2G AWD Tranny over the winter and one of the thing that I want to do is to install a taller 1st Gear. I did some digging up and have asked around in order to find the part numbers. These are actually EVO3 parts so we can get them from a Mitsu Dealer.

1G and 2G Tranny are internally similar so these upgrades could also be done on a 1G as well.

EVO3 Input Shaft: MD747887
EVO3 1st Gear (Intermediate Shaft) MD743979

It is also posible to install Double Cone Synchros on the 2nd Gear.

1st and 2nd Hub and Sleeve including the Synchros
(1st is single Cone but the 2nd is double Cone)
MD747643

Other updates that might also be interesting would be 3nd and 4th Double Come Synchros and a taller 5th (10%). I'll try to dig up the numbers and will update this tread later.

I would like to invite anybody that has pertinent information to add or correct me if I'm out of lunch.

Ghislain.

The Evo parts are going to be hard if not impossible to get from the dealer. The parts guy at Mitsu here has no problems looking up obscure PNs for me, but the avaliability isnt very good. I will look into them again this winter when I finally get around to building my trans.

GVR 1st Gear: MD743177, Input Shaft: MD747883
5th Gear, Input: MD743980, Output: MD743319
Evo 1-2 Shift Fork: MD749754, 3-4 Shift Fork: MD749755
Center diff MD733338 (gears and spacers to convert to 4 spider)
Front LSD: MD738900 (Evo3)

1990 TSi AWD - Parked since I bought it (Jan24/03)
Had it out one day, and busted the trans.

This is excellent information.

Do you know if we also need to replace the 1st & 2nd Hub and Sleeve for EVO/GVR parts or if we can use the taller Gearset (2G in my case) with good old north american market components???

As for the Center Diff part number you included; is it for a 1G or 2G or are they exactly the same???

Ghislain.

Is There any updates on this?
There should be a complete guide for doing Trany uprgrades. There is a ton of info on engine mods but hardly anything on doing the trany.

Could someone send me a tech drawing of a center diff spool. I want to have one made. Im not sure if the 1g and 2g are the same. I need the 2g one if they are.
