I was wondering if anyone has had the issue of their drain plug being in too far. This seems to be my case as I cannot get enough grip to even budge it. If you have had this problem how did you manage to get it out lol. I will probably end up taking it to Mr. transmission tommarow afternoon and let them get the darn thing off.

For reference here is a pic from the vfaq
[Linked Image]
Where the flat section of the plug looks flush on this pic, mine is well over a mm if not two further in.

Not sure what you mean but it is a shallow head.

My socket just gets enough purchase to work (and skin my knuckles every time). Mine is recessed relative to the curved rib on the left of the bolt. Are you saying your socket is a fatty and hits the rib?

No not the rib, the surface just around the plug. I actually bought a set of wrenches just so I could try that as well. I don't lose that much skin anymore as I use mechanix gloves.

Crush Washer is probably missing or the area of the Tranny where the Drain Plug sits was machined down for some reason.

My favorite tool is a 1/2" drive Ratchet and a good old Scoket. Hold the Ratchet on the Plug with your left hand and do the "munkeying" with your right hand.

Works for this "Ape".

If it's too tight, you're not going to be able to get it a ratchet. You'll simply slip off, and damage the plug. Impact gun makes it easier. You'll be able to keep the socket on the shallow head easier.

You may need to grind down your socket to get rid of the tapered lead in section, so you get a good sharp grip right at the very nose of it.

1/2 drive breaker bar, with impact socket on the end of it. Hold the socket on with one hand, slip a pipe on the end of the breaker bar, crack that sucka loose.

Thanks nick that did the trick. I really didn't want to grind down a brand new socket, but I did anyways. I think someone had put regular motor oil in my transmission, yuck. I'm hoping the Redline MTL will solve the 3rd gear grind I sometimes get when I'm givener.

You should be able to tell if it was regular oil or gear oil, did the smell hit you in the back of your throat, almost enough so to make you want to vomit? If so, thats old gear oil.

It kinda smelled like burnt engine oil, but holy crap the MTL/MT-90 mix works wonders. I didn't realize how syrupy the shifting felt since I learned standard on the car, but wow I can fly through the gears now. Definatly worth the 12 bucks a quart.

It made that much difference? I thought when I drove it that some good tranny fluid would do wonders for that car.
Good to hear!

Yeah, I also did the shifter bushing mod. That was done a week ago though. The metal washer mod was already done to the car. One thing you probably didnt notice was that the shift knob was not as low as it could go. I had to keep the lower cover for shift knob off just so I could tighten it when I had it fully down.

I probably will replace it anyways. When I start increasing the power I really dont want to have to rip it off when it goes. That and the 1-2 shift will grind and sometimes not go into gear if I'm above 6000 rpm or so.
