I put a used tranny in and it grinds in reverse when hot. Rebuilt clucth master, pedal adjusted. made a longer slave rod but it still grinds when hot. is there syncros for reverse? Do you think the slave cyl is the culprit? I went to get a rebuild kit for it but the dealer sold me the wrong one. (diameter of piston is too big).
Fluid level is set and has gm syncromesch.
I bled it a dozen times.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Some transmissions (the JDM ones I think) don't have a "brake" for reverse gear.

Try putting it in first to slow the input shaft before putting it in reverse.

Like Rob said it is posible that your Tranny is not equiped with a Reverse Gear Ring.

One more posibility would be that the Clutch does not fully disengage. That happend to me last year nad it was caused by a collapsed Trow Out Bearing.

I always try to slow the gear box down. and wait a few seconds while I pump the clutch pedal several times before my final depressing to engage reverse (to build some extra pressure).
Also new pivot pin, and oem t.o.b.

Mine has ground going into reverse since the car was new. Just put it into 1st before you go for reverse and it will be ok.

Some good shifter bushings all around may help...

Lots of cars are like that. My Stratus does the same thing and some other cars I have driven. It's a pain in the ass but I have learned to live with it.

I always put it in 4th before reverse,
never had a grind that way, on other cars too. If I don't, it grinds a lot more times.

I have to agree with Nigel on the bushings, find 2 skateboard bearings and press them into the shift cables at the tranny, the stock rubber bushings harden and will not pivot at all. I just put some bearings in and it made the whole range alot smoother. Coat the shifter arms in penetrating fluid they usually get all gummed up and wont have full motion.

Another issue i ran into lately, my selector shift work was bent a bit to the right and threw everything off.

Hope that helps.
