Ok, it's on!
We've worked out the details, figured out the solutions, and we're good to go.

So it's time for the final grudge match of the year.... the 2nd Annual Peckerhead Shootout, sponsored by Peckerhead Racing Ice Cream and Dairy Bar. (and to a much lesser extent Club DSM Canada)

If you've raced 10,000 times, or never at all, no worries, everyone is welcome.
If you've never been -- bring your car, and see what it can really do, in the safety of a professional drag track.

The discussion about Sparta is now out, for several reasons, not least of which was the distance.
But, in addition, a local london shop is having their year end T&T event on the 14th (the next day) at Sparta, and we wouldn't want people to have to choose one over the other.

Toronto Motorsports Park (in Cayuga, Ontario), has always been a bit more expensive, and a bit more complex, but they definitely have the nicer facilities and track.

They also will have a safety crew on site, throughout the day.... so heaven forbid, something goes wrong, you'll have the best chance of survival.

This is unique compared to regular T&T, because we will have the whole place to ourselves, and can do what we want.
Grudge matches, test & tune, whatever.
Yes, other friends (with or without DSMs) are welcome to come, as long as they respect the track rules, etc.
You can generally get in as many runs as you like.

Here's what we are doing:
Date: October 13th, 2006 (Friday, book it off NOW!)
Time: 10am-4pm (track probably open by 9:30am)
Place: www.torontomotorsportspark.com
NO TECH INSPECTION (some were worried about their battery relocation, etc)
Helmets are required, if you're faster than 14.0 (I think).

$80 per driver, spectators are free.

Drivers must provide a deposit up front of $30 to reserve a spot.
Refundable if it is rained out.
GO-NoGo (rainout) information will be posted on this thread, or in this section, the day of, by no later than 7am. (the weather network will never be that far off by that close)

So, please send:

$30

to

webmaster@ca.dsm.org

PayPal or Interac Email Money, is just fine.

The other $50, will be due to me, on arrival, before you race.
If you want to pay the whole $80 up front, and not have to have a hassle at the track of handling money, that's fine too.

Please include with your payment:
Name
Number where you can be reached.
Car Year, Make, Model, Colour, and License Plate.
(it will help me check you off at the track, that's all)

Thanks guys, looking forward to it!
Finally, we will get to see, the ince cream truck, take down the purple hair!

Does this mean I don't get a new hair-cut??

In any case I'm there (obviously). Let's hope I can fit my helmet over my current "do".

SOMEONE better get to an 11 on pump. We all know, it's not going to be ppg .

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

You can install the program on my laptop. But I get the majority of the battery time. It's a Pentium 4 so it gets sucked out fast.

I have an inverter too. The only problem is that to download a log you have to shut the car off for 30 seconds then turn it back on. 30 seconds is pushing it on this battery.

No worries we'll figure something out.

Hey Ryan I'm going to this aswell. If you want you can cruise with me, im down with that. Just means for the shannonville drags im out. I think the day at cayuga with the board will be more enjoyable then a night at shannonville.

Edit: Im going to need practice for this will be my first time on the track. Me and Rob S. have a bet going for my first 1/4 mile time =]

I hit a 12.4 @ 119MPH on 91 fuel. but with a shitty launch that landed me a 2.2 60 fot. With a good launch I would be in the high 11s on pump fuel! too bad I cant make it!

I'm in. I never been to the track before, so this will be a perfect time to get some experience. i've been planning to go all summer. I got a friend with a trailer in port perry so i might get him to come along and if one of us durham guys break he can tow us back. Said he'd do it for gas money. Do spectators have to pay?

So todd, Rafael, Kevin, Manual you all in? i know shannonville is the next day so i'm undecided if i'll be going to both or not but i can't miss this.

No one laugh at my 14 and 15sec timeslips it'll be my first time even launching my car. i'll have to practise once my suspension is back together. Just need to find time between work and night school. Hopefully saturday is a productive day and i'll get most of it done minus my wheel bearings that still need to show up.

Its only like an hour and a half MAX from London, taking the back roads. I've made it from Wellington road to Dunnville(which is a touch futher) in an hour. The back roads will take ya right to TMP. Its easy.

I hope to be there, but just watching damnit.

Hey guys,

Just noticed something... PayPal is hitting me a little harder for their cut, than I thought, so if you have a choice, please use Interac Email Money Transfer, from your online banking.

They don't take anything when I receive it...

Thanks!!! laugh

May head down to spectate and heckle or speckle. I have an 1800w 60ah back up power pack with 5 ac outlets if a more reliable power source is required. Plus a port-a-Q but canna remember the BTU's

Well seeing it's the QEW we want, we could caravan from the old Computer City/The Room Store/Toys-R-Us parking lot at Hurontario and the 403?

We could then go non-stop to the Tim's on Mudd St where we can hook up with the rest of em?

How many would be in for such a thing?

I would be up for meeting some where. Would anyone know the address so I could get directions though? The hurontario won't pick up anything for directions online. Also, I don't know if thats a nick name or not.

In regards to my previous post. I found hurontario St. now and were it intersect with the QEW. I assume The parking lot for Toys r us will be pretty obvious. So I will meet there if everyone else does. What time will we all probably be meeting up?

The GOOD news is, that:

A. You'll be surrounded by technical DSMers, so if heaven forbid, something breaks, the best brains around, are right there with ya.

B. CAA will pickup at the track... (yes, we've tested this)

C. We're only minutes from my trailer and tools, if we decide to fix!

laugh

Anyhow, come on guys, get it together, get word to me... I wanna see them all running, and there!
I'm working on mine too, trying to correct some nagging problems, for one last good run!

Here's who's who, as of now...

Andy
Steve
Mark
Lionel Chichioco
Sergio Barros
Noah Wiles
Mike Jackson
Rob Strelecki
Paul Petricca
Nigel Smith
Dennis Camacho
Dan Jackson
James DeCunha
Matthew Steffler

Plus a maybe from Kevin, Jay, and a few others!

...and, last word I heard, is that there might be a few mustangs coming... something about thinking they're faster than us.

I hope some of them are Cobras, because the Mongoose is hungry... naughty

Well in that case Andy, I might run after all. I just need to sign up for CAA just for peace of mind. I know Iknow, that's a Dsmer's first rule.

As for the Mustangs. Don't they get tired of getting spanked by the four bangers? laugh

In my expericience, some people just like to be spanked. Maybe they are happy they found people who are willing to.

There is one Mustang that is coming that thinks he's fast. But with only 420HP at the wheels, I doubt it. Common guys... lets show this induced V8 what a 4 banger can really do. Put your money where your mouth is!

Well I feel sorry for the poor sap because one of my friends ran against a newer Cobra and he made the guy look stupid. Then he proceeds to ask him if he had a six cylinder turbo on his talon.

When my buddie told him it was a four banger turbo the guy hsd this puzzled look on his face.

..and, last word I heard, is that there might be a few mustangs coming... something about thinking they're faster than us.

I hope some of them are Cobras, because the Mongoose is hungry... [Naughty]

Wow...and I thought I was the only one dumb enough to show up to a dsm event in a stang....and it's only a GT.

I just wanted to get some runs in before the season ends...and to see how much faster Todd is after his improvements.

Jay, this is the address for the Toys-r-us

4559 HURONTARIO ST.
MISSISSAUGA, ON
L4Z 3L9

Its a huge parking lot, but there is an empty store there now near a coffee shop (second cup?)

We just meet there.

Its not at the QEW, its at the 403 which hooks up with the QEW smile Whereas the 401 doesn't.

We're looking at a roughly 7:30am meet at Hurontario. Leave by 8:00am. Meet everyone at Mudd St Timmies at 9:00am, then off to Cayuga.

Anyone else in?

Someone asked for directions...

London to the Track
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/...ler+Road&2c=cayuga&2s=on&2z=

Toronto to the track:
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/...ler+Road&2c=cayuga&2s=on&2z=

(no idea how long those links will work, but it's 1040 Kohler Road, in Cayuga, Ontario, if you have to look it up again)

GRRR....I lent out my compressor/air tools and impact sockets. I have to do everything by hand, and I don't have the proper size socket to loosen the drain plugs on the tranny/t-case mad

I'll still be done with about a week to spare wink

Hey Adam.......How early do you wake up laugh

If your pitching in for gas I don't mind the extra k on my car. If you could manage to make it home so I could just hop off the 401 I will pick you up free of charge smile (might even get you a big mac at lunch) Otherwise I will be in p-town at like 6 in the morning. Again my friend with the Eclipse will be there aswell if you know anyone else from your area who wants to go.

Then to Oshawa Meet up with Kevin and a few friends. I believe he plans on stopping in Durham already. Once I meet up with him I imagine I will just follow him. Just FYI... confirmed our reservation today.
The track will phone me at 7am, with an eye on the weather.

Once we decide either way, I will post a fresh thread in this section, that will be very obvious. smile

So, when you get up on the 13th, check in here after 7am (or so), for the word, either way.

Which begs the question: What ARE we going to do if it rains. I mean, hell, we've all got the day off, and $80 to burn. I *think* there's an indoor go-cart place in Hamilton now.. ??

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

We can head to Andy's for some good old hookers and blow.

Actually if it's raining/cancelled I'll be going into work. Can't really afford the day off but I'm taking it anyway if the race is on.

I'd be down with In go-karts something with speed. Would hate to waste the day away espicially if I'm getting up at 4. cool

EDIT: I know its not too accurate. But the 14 day forecast for Cayuga says cloudy skys friday the 13th. About 18 for the temp. Saturday and Sunday call for rain though frown

Same here. I already took a day off today to install the FMIC with Paul, plus with Monday a holiday I would need to work if we got rained out.

The indoor go kart place in hamilton is actually pretty cool. If you have enough peopl you can do the Indy I think they call it. It is $50 to do 2 20 lap races plus a 15 lap final for the top 6 racers. Plus its something like 5 lap warmup. So either way you get 45 laps for 50 bucks. Not to bad even if the laps only last a max of 30 seconds.

I don't like the forecast for the 13th today. In the words of Ali the weatherman "Its gonna rain!".

Hopefully the forecast changes in the next week. In the mean time, if it does rain how many people are calling it a day?

Since when, can the weatherman, predict the weather? smile

They say, that within 500km of the great lakes, you can't predict the weather accurately, more than 6 hours out.
So, relax.

Andy, who gets to call it a washout? Do we basically have to show up if it's dry out -even if rain is iminent? Or, do you get to call the track ans say "No thanks, it's gonna rain!" ?

I think I explained, but maybe not.

At 7am, the guy from the track will be calling me, and we'll collectively decide what to do.

Then, I will post the result on here, either way, for everyone to read.

So, if you have any buddies off the club coming, be sure they check this Test & Tune forum (anyone can read, without logging in) before they go. Or, you check it, and let them know.

I expect, if it's iffy, they don't care so much, as at that time of day, they can still call off the staff and ambulance services, likely with no cost to them.

So, I mean if there is a 10% chance of something, and the sky looks good, we'll go.
If it's pouring, we won't.
If they predict 60% chance of 1mm of rain, well... that's where it gets funny.
Usually the morning of, the weather network is pretty good here.

LMFAO.....who wants to go with a non-turbo car?!?! rotflmao

Well I got my car back together yesterday. The clutch could probally use a re-bleeding(I did it by myself with a 2x4 holding down the pedal) and a slight adjustment of the clutch, but other than that its shifting 10x better then before. I even have my boost issues solved, as I'm now getting my presure source from the lower IC pipe. My boost was either 14psi(to the WG) or 24psi(with a mbc), so you guess what I've been running the last few months naughty . Now its time to test out what makes me more power, less boost more timing, or more boost less timing.

Ryan is just a little guy stuff him in the back! He would have tons of leg room back there.

I'm riding shotgun with you Jay on the way back or you can just let me drive, which would be better still.

"Now its time to test out what makes me more power, less boost more timing, or more boost less timing."

My money is on more boost, less timing.

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

I've been pretty conservative with my timing, because I run 9:1CR pistons. So to run the 24-25psi on pump I have alot of timing pulled. The car felt really good at 22psi with some timing added back in. I haven't compared 70-90 times to see whats faster yet, cause I found that my oil pan is leaking pretty bad. I need to drop the pan today and fix that.....yea more work!

Hey man if you both want in the Talon I don't care. Won't be me in the back seat.

On a side note..I broke one of my Intercooler clamps on my car Saturday. So its either going to be a slow trip or we are going to need to stop a few times to re-connect some couplers. Unless I can get it fixed tonight. Just need to make it hold over long enough for Ziggy to arrive at Cayuga laugh

P.S. I just spent some time at lunch working on my car. I might be good. I will test tonight once I am off work.

Go to crappy tire and spend $3 on two 3" clamps. They work fine if you know how to tighten them without killing them.

I already got clamps order from Ziggy. I tossed my old ones I got with the piping, seems to be holding just fine now. However, I haven't really got into the boost lately.

P.S. I went to crappy already, They dont have any t-bolts at the one here in Belleville. Only have the same kind I already have on the car. I think the fault is mostly the Couplers. But thats just my expert opinion *rolls eye's*

I hate the weather this time of year. smile

Sun, rain, sun, rain.

48 hours to go... as of this morning, not looking too bad, but we'll see. Everyone pray for rain today and tomorrow, so that it blows itself out. smile

Kitchener had a big dump of rain this morning. It's supposed to rain here on Friday as well but not in Cayuga. It'll make for a tough call on Friday if it is in fact raining here and not there.

Guys, I'm out. Got way too many things to do at work and I need to book a day off next week for my mid-term so I can't take both days off plus my car isn't finished yet and doesn't look like I'll have time to touch the car till saturday anyhow. All I had to do is the front bearings and get an alignment. LIFE SUCKS!!! I'll make it out next year. Definitely do this next year.

Hey Mark, Jay will be meeting myself, Todd, Raf, and Kevin McDonald in Oshawa. And then making a quick stop in scarboro for Reza. Just trade #'s with Jay, and I'm sure we'll be fine.

If it's raining in Newmarket Joe (guy with the 560hp Cobra) won't be coming (drag radials and rain don't mix). If he is coming then I'll meet him in Newmarket and we'll head down to PPG's and to Toys R us from there...

It might be cold enough to snow, hehe.

I can just barely get my helmet on. Its not comfortable, but looks like it'll have to do. I'll bring my spare helmet too, incase anyone needs it.

Hey all.

I just got on the internet tonight cause we had snow at our house. So I decide to come online. The forecast is calling for chance of showers. Either way Im leaving as planed to be at toy'r'us to meet PPG and whoever else goes there.

Something came up with my friend with the Eclipse and he cannot make it. So its just me going, also Adam had school thing. As of now its Ryan, Steve and I in my talon.

Hopefully see everyone tommorrow smile

Wow, this is horrible... snow squal warnings in cayuga and they are expecting 10cm of snow over night and 10-30 mm of rain? Says scattered showers 40% chance in the morning and then for the afternoon couldy with shower 70% chance. For hamilton tho it dsays cloudy periods in the morning and 30% chance and for afternoon it says scattered showers 40%. SHIITTT! hopefully hamilton weather is more like it! this sucks!

I'm about to head out to the garage and burn some Talon parts as an offering.

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Mike, we've discussed it...
only thing we figured is because alot of people took the day off work that it would be unlikely that they would be willig to do it again.

Feel free to chime in and change our opinion smile

If I may...
I think at this point, maybe it's best that we all figure out an alternate weekend and attend a public test & tune.

Even open to public, I doubt it will be crowded. I went at the end of October once and I got all the runs I wanted.
Cayuga's still open in November if the weather turns around... Just like snow this week, anything could happen!

//edit
I know I won't be getting a day off work, until December.
Here's the October schedule for anyone that's in the same boat as me:

(October)
SUN - 15 St. Thomas
SAT - 21 Cayuga
SUN - 22 Cayuga & St. Thomas
SAT - 28 St. Thomas
SUN - 29 Cayuga & St. Thomas

Thanks to Andy for the hospitality.
Who can ever say they have 15 DSMers in their garage at once, and the driveway was not even full! laugh

I forgot how much fun go-karting is.

Yah, I also want to extend my thanks for the hospitality Andy. Great burgers and a good time at the Go-Kart track despite not being able to get to the real race track!

That was good times guys. I had fun. Thanks again to Andy for the hospitality, and to Ziggy for the food.

I am down any time for going back to that go-kart track again in the future. Fun track and fast carts.

I had a great time, even tho I didn't have my car ready, and cayuga got rained/snowed out. 11's will have to wait a bit longer, lets just say a certain supercharged mustang got lucky yesterday. That reminds me, Mark have you lost your chubby yet? Awesome car Mike, and you won't catch me saying that about too many stangs.

Andy, you should make an 1/8th mile strip in your backyard, we could re-locate the yorkdale meets to your house laugh Thanks again for the hospitality.........and my hair,I'm keeping it bird

Kevin, I thought you car was leaking like a SOB and you couldn't go? I'm gonna get back to working on my car tommorow, need to get it finished before the real snow hits down for good.

Sounds like you guys had an awesome time and sorry i missed this.

Think we chould start a new thread about a test'tune we should all attend before the season is over.

^^^I ended up rolling with Todd. It wasn't my oil-pan leaking afterall. So I fixed it like 3 times for nothing, such a waste of time. It turns out that my leak is coming from behind the front balance shaft sprocket. I can't believe all the work I'm going to have to do to change a $5 seal.

Pickles???
Yuck!

How about German Potato salad? With the bacon, and spices... mmmmmmmmM!

YES!
My official thanks to Ziggy for the food, pop, etc. We've got leftovers, so next time, we're stocked and ready! smile

Not sure we'll make anything this season, unless we get some last minute saturday T&T, it's too hard to get everyone withthe days off work, etc... but, what we did PROVE beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind, is that we can pull enough guys together to rent the track for ourselves, and we can do that at Cayuga -- So, in the spring, for sure, we'll do it again!

Mehrdad, you need to expand your horizons....don't knock what you haven't tried!!

There MAY be another occasion to celebrate soon. Anneliese and I have put in an offer on a house, and we have a verbal acceptance, though not in writing yet. It is looking like RTM will be moving to Niagara Falls, Ont. We will be just seconds from the highway, though, and in addition to tons of space in the basement for storing all the parts, we will have an oversize double garage....25'6" x 30'!!! (big enough to put a few machines into, so it won't be too long until RTM is machining again wink )

I am pretty sure I can talk Anneliese into making some burgers and potato salad for a housewarming...
Maybe I should have everyone come to hamilton, load a few boxes into their cars, and then head to the new place for a BBQ? I could save on the movers, LOL!!

The new location is still covered by Fedex and Fastway, the couriers I use, and I will still be attending the Yorkdale meets, so nothing will really change...except that I will be quite busy with the move and everything, so for the next while I might not be quite as quick as I would like to be answering your emails....but I will do my best, as I always have!!

Ziggy ,
I tried bacon and no offence it has too much oil and like I said: YUCK
I hope you buy that house soon man, because I missed both Test & Tune bbq and I am really mad at my self , so at least I get some bbq from there.
The cool thing about moving to Niagara is that I can visit you more often since I am mostly in Niagara, now I got my self a **** hotel:D.jk
Good luck man.

LOL, just keeping it real!

I'd love to see that stang go down. In fact, I had 5 gal of c16 to give him a good fisting. I had plans of running at least 30psi with my 60-1 demon

The biggest problem with that stang is, It launches like a mo fo, as hard as my Talon so no awd advantage against it.
But worry not my fellow dsmers he can be taken down. the northern battle continues and im representin for us.HAHA

It's too bad getting a ton of dsms to the track for a day is like pulling teeth. It would have been sweet seeing these monsters we're always hearing about throw down. You should have brought your car to our T&T day Kevin.

I havn't seen a Mustang yet, that can stay with us out of the box, least not one that was driven to the track.
The last serious one we went up against at Sparta, was putting 510 to the wheels and we were 3-4 cars lenghts ahead after second gear. The real test is in the last 1/8th, you need a good trap speed.
Mike, we only have one more track day at Sparta, (next weekend) and were already taking in customers cars for winter upgrades. Also, the track temps are so cool, traction is a real problem for everyone, were coming out of the box sideways and spinning the wheels on gear changes. Our car was running about a second off last week just due to the cold track surface.
