OK, I finally got my EGT gauge in, and I think I'm running WWAAAAYYYY too rich!!

The probe is in the #1 runner, and here's what I get..

~1000 at idle
1350 - 1400 at cruise,

Now, here's the kicker. At 18 psi, WOT for at least 7 seconds, I couldn't get it to go above 1450. I realize I'm aiming for ~1600, but is 1450 stupidly rich, or just really rich?? (I'm wondering just how much I have to lean things out....)

Thanks!

Prima facie, 1450 at wide open throttle at 18 psi on pump gas is fairly rich. Target 1600F at WOT. This will get you some more power through being a little leaner and shouldn't introduce problems.

One thing to note is that keeping the car on the rich side at higher boost levels has a consequence for the injector duty cycle. At 18 psi, (assuming factory injectors) you may be able to keep the EGTs down but at the expense of running 90-95%+ injector duty cycle. Under continued operation (eg. hi boost highway driving) this can result in damage to the fuel injectors which can have obvious repercussions when you least expect it.

Glad to hear it's in Steve [Linked Image] but yes, as you noted, you are running rich at WOT (maybe we should start a rich at WOT list, you and Andy can be at the top... and any time we caravan, we'll make sure you're at the back [Linked Image] )

Guess it's time to start buggin the Mrs. for a Super AFC, huh? [Linked Image]

Thanks guys...

Giovanni: Actually, I had totally forgot until you mentioned duty cycle that my injectors were being maxxed when I datalogged some of my dyno runs in may (Or, rather Chris Holmes datalogged...) This may explain it!!

Craig: Yep, but you know me.. gotta try the cheap way first... now, where's my soldering iron?

Well, a dime store FCD (pot on the baro sensor) is a cheap way to lean things a bit, especially since you have the safety of an EGT gauge... Total cost, about $5. It's as good as an AFC for a mildly modded DSM with stock injectors. Just don't go overboard with it cause your drivability an idel will suffer.
