Uhmm, that's not the original AFC. The very first ones had no digital display and had 5 manual knobs for 5 RPM ranges. If yours has one knob with a digital display, then you have the 2nd generation piece which would make it the S-AFC. I've never had one of the newer ones at any time, but I know my classic 5-knob style AFC had 5 wires I think. 1. Ground 2. Power 3. Airflow IN 4. Airflow OUT 5. RPM Signal (Crank Sensor on 2G) I dont know if you have a 1G or 2G, but because I`m in a good mood, I actually searched FOR you. I believe he has one of the OLD school AFCs.
If so, it pretty much just affects the global airflow. It doesn't need an rpm signal.
(ie: it just adds/subtracts the same amount of airflow across the board..)
Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Its been awhile since I had my 5 knob, but arent the 5 knobs for seperate adjustment points, thats why the rpm wire is there. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/wayback/afcinstall.html
