I have one of the orginal(I think) apexi afc's. It has only one knob(not the one with five)from what I can tell it does not have a wire on the harness for rpm signal. It only has four wires. I was going to install this on my 2g as a temperary air flow converter for a couple weeks as I'm running a rich. Has any one ever used one of these on their dsm? can you tell me anything about it I may not know?
thanks

Uhmm, that's not the original AFC. The very first ones had no digital display and had 5 manual knobs for 5 RPM ranges. If yours has one knob with a digital display, then you have the 2nd generation piece which would make it the S-AFC.

I've never had one of the newer ones at any time, but I know my classic 5-knob style AFC had 5 wires I think.

1. Ground
2. Power
3. Airflow IN
4. Airflow OUT
5. RPM Signal (Crank Sensor on 2G)

I dont know if you have a 1G or 2G, but because I`m in a good mood, I actually searched FOR you.

I believe he has one of the OLD school AFCs.

If so, it pretty much just affects the global airflow. It doesn't need an rpm signal.

(ie: it just adds/subtracts the same amount of airflow across the board..)

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Hmm thought I did mention it was a 2g, but yeah steve is right it has to be the oldest of the old afc's before the 5 knob- no digital display. I am going to use the install instruction I found earlier in the VFAQ pages and go without the rpm signal wire(obviously). Since this is only temporary I don't really mind the same increase/decrease across the whole rpm range, but it would have been nicer to be more adjustable. thanks guys

Its been awhile since I had my 5 knob, but arent the 5 knobs for seperate adjustment points, thats why the rpm wire is there.
