Hello All,

My Fiance drives a Dodge Avenger, and stock it has 205/55/16 tires....she is a nervous winter driver, so I'd like to get her some Winter tires. What winter tire size would be optimum? I understand that using a narrower tire in the winter helps significantly in the ice and snow.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

You could definitely drop down a size and go with 195/65/15s, which would give you better resistance to hydroplaning in slush/snow. The overall diameter would be the same.

Uh, check the For Sale section. shuffle

You'll have a hard time finding any 16" winter tires narrower than 205.
If you switch to 15" wheels you can probably find some 185 wide tires.

IMHO, you're better off with ANY winter tires. Even stock size ones. Don't kill yourself trying to get narrower ones, just get ones that are available. I use stock 205/55/R16s on my Talon and they work very well.

Any winter/ice radial will kick ass over "all-season" tires.
