when I even move the steering wheel now it makes this hidious screeching noise This could be your ball joint. Mine was doing the same thing for a while. Then it broke when I was driving down the highway. Not fun. Is the sound loud? Mine was.
Write that down.

A lot of places will give you free inspections.Think midas muffler does and likely places like canadian tire maybe ,etc. Get some quotes on what is wrong with your car and then you can do the critical stuff first or maybe buy a shop manual even haynes or chilton and maybe do some of it yourself.
But for sure don't mess around with it.Sounds like something is very screwed under there.

No, there no need to change the entire control arm for ball joints. I did mine in the fall. Not that hard to do.

Hey Alex, You can replace the ball joints without replacing the whole control arm. I'm speaking from experience. As previously mentioned, Satan will insist you can't and some Canadian Tire and UAP/NAPA employee's will tell you the same. But some Canadian Tire and UAP/NAPA employee's will actually be useful and order the ball joint in for you. I got mine from CT but I don't have the part number anymore. Just phone a few CTs or NAPA's until you get ahold of someone useful and once you get the part I'll try and give you some instructions on how to replace the ball joint. Good luck! Scotty
