gr-2s are basically stock. If you plan on lowering your car at all I would deffinately go for the agx. AGX are adjustable so you can make it "smother" if you want(still stiffer than stock).
1990 tsi awd- Big 16g fully ported, k&N, 2g mani, mbc@18psi, 255 pump, 3" turbo back exhaust no cat, hks turbo timer, datalogger, autometer a/f boost, unorthodox underdrive pully, big fmic, safc 2, JE 9:1 pistons, b/s removed, safc-2, 550cc's, 2g mas

Hopefully someone has some answers for me! I think you answered your own question.
Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

GR-2's are 15% firmer than stock
AGX's range from 95% up to 123% firmer than stock
1990 TSi AWD - Parked since I bought it (Jan24/03) Had it out one day, and busted the trans.

Some shock manufacturers valve them differently depending on the demographic that they are shooting for. I just wanted to know if gr2s were similar between applications.

True enough.
I would ASSume though, that the shock manufacturers would go after a demographic with a "level" of shock though (ie: GR2,AGX, etc..) and probably not vary them much from vehicle to vehicle.
