Im sure it has been asked on here before, but I couldnt find it.

I just bought a 1990 TSi AWD, and was wondering the bolt pattern (for aftermarket rims)?

Also, is there any restrictions I need to be aware of?
-17' OK?

How wide is too wide? I was thinking 40 series.

Also, I have heard that changing tire/rim size affects your speedo, and it will read wrong. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

Bolt pattern in 5x114.3

17's are fine

40 series is not the width of the tire, that is the sidewall. That means it is 40% of the width, which is the first number in the tire size. IE 205, 215 etc

When going to a bigger rim/tire, you do have to get a proper sized tire so your speedo wont be out.

To add on Chris's info, the bolt pattern is 5x114.3mm/5x4.5 inches in case you wonder what that 114.3 means. If you apply aftermarket rims on your car, you need to watch the offset also. Stock rims for your car is +46mm and you might want to stay between +40mm. to +50mm. Centrebore is 67.1mm on your car, so you usually need a hupcentric rings for your aftermarket rims because the centrebore for most aftermarket rims are bigger, at 71mm for example. (We have some debate on whether we need to use this ring or not, do some search and you'll find this thread)

For the tires, since your stock size should be 205/55/16, the closet 17" tire size to your stock one should be 205/50/17 (0.8% slower), 215/45/17 (1% faster), 225/45/17(0.4% slower).

Hope this help. wink

Sorry, Im

Still new at this game, what is offest and centerbore exactly?

Also, for tire size, how can you tell what size is going to throw off my speedo by a certain percentage?
