I second the Nokia. They are the best snow tire I've ever owned. With AWD it makes the car a bullet, just point and shoot.
Only down side is the speed rating...

Hahaha....

V speed rating for a winter tyre? You must be mad or absolutely suicidal to exploilt that speed rating...in winter.....

For an AWDer, atually any winter tyre is better than any all seasons. I just get the cheapest set..usually from Crappy if they are on sale.

I have a set of Kumho KW19, very soft, and I'm satisfy with it on both snow and ice condition with that price. Unless you are looking for highspeed performance (or lot of highway driving) then I would recommend something not as soft with a higher speed rate.

I had some of the WalMart winter tires on my old cavalier, they worked good, they were cheap and are made by goodyear.

1990 TSi AWD - Parked since I bought it (Jan24/03)

When I drove my 1G in the winter up in Sudbury I got a set of the Toyo Observe G-03's put on. Super grippy, actually were an awesome tire in the dry and fairly quiet. Any snow tire is an upgrade from a set of all season's but the Toyo's ae aparenty up there with the Nokian's etc. Blizzak's were too pricy and with thier dual density tread, life as a true now tire short.
The Toy's actually let us go for a late-nite blast down the snowmoble trails from Subury out to Hamner (for those who know the area)

I had Dunlop Graspic's on my Tiburon. They were expensive but worth every penny. AMAZING winter tires that come in 17's as well.
However, if you are AWD I agree with Jeremy, there is really no need to spend so much on winters.

Blizzak MZ-01. My only complaint was that they weren't V rated. They were quite sticky in the summer too laugh

I run the high performance Blizzak LM-22 (205/50/17), not LM-50. Half of the time highway are cleared, and winter tire are on in november, but we may see some real snow just at the end of december, same for spring... better have more speed rating for safety...in case... I don't think there is any cons to runs that, just advantage... But I agree, on snowing day, play safe!

Blizzak LM-50, paired with AWD, I can get anywhere I need to, anyday, all winter, even when roads are closed.

I just removed my old Blizzak MZ-02's, warn, in favor of the new Nokian Hakka RSi's. They are the ultimate snow/ice tires by far.

Crest white strips do a great job in giving you witer tires, just follow the instructions.

I've The BFG wintter slalom on the 1G FWD. On my 5th winter with them and they are still going strong.

The Subie has Dunlop Graspic's and they are also good tires. This is the wife's car and that's a good thing since I have way to much fun with the AWD and winter tires.

If anyone is looking for TOYO winter tires...
Burlington Mitsu has a super deal on them...

"Chris" the Service Manager has the following on sale...

http://www.toyocanada.com/products/GaritHT.asp

He has local shops buying tires from him...doesn't hurt to drop him a line or stop by.

My 2 cents...
