I looking at buying this rebuilt Garrett T3 with a Svo compressor wheel and a new HKS external wastegate for 650 shipped? [Linked Image] Is this a good deal. It seems like it's too good of a deal to me, what should I look for?(with the turbo that is)

I'd really appriecate some wisdom of the veteran club members if this is the sh#t of turbo's or what. [Linked Image]

A new HKS wastegate in CAD goes for about $500 so you're off to a good start with the deal. However, if the turbo is useless you got yourself a bad deal.

Standard things to look out for on second hand turbo's are:
(1) play in the shaft;
(2) chipped wheels; and
(3) deep cracks in the turbine housing.

Find out whether it is watercooled as this helps save the thrust bearing and shaft from wearing due to insufficient cool down. You also want to know if the rebuild was done professionally (as opposed to a do-it- yourself kit) and the turbo properly balanced.

I don't know about the Svo compressor wheel so I can't comment on the flow characteristics but either way you're going to need an adapter plate or custom exhaust manifold to fit it on a DSM.

the adapter plate will run in the 100$ US I think. It will cost more $$ to do the oil lines and water line if equiped.

In the worst scenario, it will be an expensive wastegate.

I would also try to find out the size of the turbine and compressor.

Thanks guys, But I bought the 16g. There where to many other things I would have had to do to install the T3. I will just be happy to get that stocker out and put a real turbo in [Linked Image].
