Hey there. Just wondering if it's possible to remove the pistons without removing the head? The engine in my car was just rebuilt a little while ago but it turns out the rings that were installed were too small for the cylinder bore or something. Might just replace them with 95+ style while their out too. Just thought it would be nice to be able to do without messing with the timing belt and stuff.

From what I remember about rebuilding an engine in highschool, you would be able to get them out with the head still on by dropping the crank and the rods/pistons with it.

But you wouldn't be able to get the rods/pistons/rings back in since they go in from the top and the ring clamp needs to be flush with the head surface to slip them into the bores.

Peter basically said it all. NOT POSSIBLE. Head has to come off. gotta pull the engine (mine's currently still in this state), I don't think it would even be possible to cut corners by leaving the block in the car.

Good luck, and be aware that when ordering new pistons/rings (bearings if required) there is info off the block/pistons & bearings you need..it sounds like you have possibly oversized cylinders?
