My best friend just blew the timing belt on his 95 ESI (Incidentally it is the 3rd timing belt to go in ~165000 km). He (foolishly perhaps) took it to Satan to be fixed. They told him that the water pump had crapped out and took the t-belt with it. When they replaced them and started her up, they did a compression test and found that cylinders 3 and 4 were reading ZERO. Can anyone explain how this could have happened? Thanks

When the timing belt goes more than 1-2 teeth the valves usually hit the pistons and the valves bend.

That's what I thought too Vince but they (Satan) claimed that they were not bent, just that they weren't getting compression. They *suggested* that the cylinders would need to be replaced. I imagine that tomorrow it will need a new block, gearbox and suspension before satan's sone with it...lol

No kidding...The final verdict was $2700 for t-belt, water pump, new intake and exhust valves, new master head gasket and random collection of other things. I feel bad for him...
