I just bought a Mitsu TD05-20g from Will in Calgary where he bought it from Darin (who rebuilt it clipped/ported). Thanks again Will for the great price!
A good friend told me you can kind of test a turbo by wiggling the compressor wheel/turbine wheel and seeing how much movement you get...
In my case there is very slight movement, hardly noticeable to anybody but a perfectionist. Will who wasn't worried, said it should tighten once oil cycles through it?? Is there some other way to test or tighten it?
I trust Darin's rebuild but I just want to be 100% sure before I install it...
thanks, mike

I think that a new or rebuild Turbo should not have any shaft play.
How would you describe the play(mm)???
Was this unit balanced after the rebuild???

Up and down movement is fine as long as the blades aren't hitting the housing, it'e normal to have up and down play, the play will be greater when the center cartrage is dry, as soon as it gets oil the play will be less.
In and out movement is the play to be worried about, there should be no in and out movement at al, if there is it's a sign of warn seals.

looks like I have recieved a slap on the wrist from administators...oh well
yes the movement is strictly "up and down" or side to side (2-D) and it doesn't seem to be hitting the sidewalls even at its closest point.
So Will was right, once the oil gets in there it'll be fine.
Stupid question for those that know better...could I put it in now and simply run lower boost? (yet to purchase 255, 660's or safc. i have just about every other bolt-on incl ext wastegate)
