I want to clean up this head I have before putting all the new internals in. I realize I shouldnt sand blast the top where the cams and lifters are but what about everywhere else? Is it ok to blast the combuston chamber part? Valve seats are gonna be remachined anyways. What about in the intake and exhaust runners, is it safe to blast inside those as well?

Any cleaning tips appreaciated. Thanx

BTW, I indicated the block mating surface of the head and its out of flatness by aprox .003" here and there. I think thats not too bad. Is this acceptable or should I deck it a couple thou anyways?

I would deck it. It will give a clean and flat surface for the H/G.

Ive never sand blasted a head before confused

I usually clean it with hot hi-prressure water

Rob, have it tanked and paint it with some high temp silver paint.

I use a rule of them that if there is 2 thou or less head warpage I leave it alone, just make sure to use the proper torque sequence and it will be fine. YOu also have to look and see if there any gasket marks on the metal. I do not suggest sandblasting it at all.

Make sure its an aluminum-safe tank. The tank I use will eat aluminum.
