I personally think that using those Banjo Fitting is an excellent idea but not sure if the Barb setup will hold.
You could keep the Banjo Fittings and get some Falre to AN-X Adapror and run some $$ Braided Lines, a little more but could prove a bit more reliable on the long run.

Arent those fittings a bit too small for oil flow? -8an lines have a .4" ID. And i'd be really worried about those things blowing off.

It's actually 1/2" -x AN=x/16 so that's 8/16'ths Originally posed by Kevin McDonald: Chris Don't Worry if you hose clamp those they wont blow off. A.N this A.N that Its B.S Ive used barb fittings for years and have never once had one blow off I even used barbs for my water alky setup up to 150 psi. Just make sure you use hose thats rated for the pressure your going to run and make sure its oil resistant.
I do agree that the size is small though, then again the actual stock lines are not overly big are they?
Good luck Chris Thanks man, I'm sure there are other guy's here reading this very sentence that are using a "less expensive" alternative and having no problems... There's only ONE way to find out... Wish me luck

I actually just placed a hose order, and was reading the specs. They listed the -8 hose as having an ID of .44 (7/16"). Maybe it is to stretch over a 1/2" fitting? Or maybe 1/2 is just the "nominal" size, and 7/16 is the "actual".

Each dash size for AN, MS and NAS equals to 1/16" ID.
So an AN-8 has a 1/2" ID size. That is comon value used in the Aviation world and that is where the automotive standard/sizing comes from.

Ok, but those are "nominal" values for the OD size that the hose stretches over. I just pulled out my vernier and some parts and checked, and the -8 hose DOES have an ID of about .45, and the fitting where the hose goes over has an OD (over the threads) of .55, but the ID of the tube portion that goes inside the hose is only .365. This means that a -8 fitting, while the nominal might be 1/2", is restricted down to 3/8". Similarly, I just measured a -6 fitting, and the ID of the tube portion there is a mere .27, not much over 1/4".

I never measured it myself but that is what our "standards" are refering to. Like you said these are probably some nominal values.

You can see as much as 150psi at the oil pump when starting on a cold morning.
I think that barb setup will work if you clamp the hoses down really well. I'd watch it like a hawk for the first while, though, and cold test it a few times to try it at max. psi.

Ghislain. I've measured it and thats what it was. Here's a -6 fitting, its .7cm or .275" or 9/32", and not 3/8".

Kevin is 100% correct the barbed fitting will hold fine with a hose clamp and the proper hose. Go to an industrial supply or hydraulic store and buy some Parker hose, it's not expensive. BTW you can also do the same for fuel line with Parkers PushLoc fittings
I'm back after 10 years. Gotta motor to build!
