If heard a few people refer to these things....

So what exactly do these things do? Do they add to engine performance? How do they work?
Does the size of the wires make a difference?
What kind of price range are these things going for?

Any help to these questions would be greatly appreciated.

The only time these items will boost performance is if your old plug wires and spark plugs are shot or worn out. You may notice an increase in gas mileage or a the car may be a bit more responsive, but that's about it. There is no need's for the Non-turbos to get upgraded plug wires, it's sort of a cushion zone for most people. The best thing for you to do is to replace the spark plugs with NGK's (copper or platnium) every 40,000kms and the plug wires every 5 years or so.

Personally, I run the Ngk Platniums and some Standard Plus 7mm wires from Acklands Grainger with no problems whatsoever.

On the copper spark plugs the electrode from where the spark comes from is copper, normally pretty cheap in price. ($1.49)

Platnium plugs have a platnium electrode that lasts longer than most spark plugs, good for those people who don't really look after there car that well, they last typically 100,000 miles. The point is that manufactures put these in new cars to cut maintainance and service costs to those vehicles with hard to reach spark plug wells. They typically cost about $5.00 a plug I believe.

My advice, save your money, buy the "normal" copper plugs and replace them more often. If you would like more info NGK has a website with some good information as well as illustrations.
www.ngksparkplugs.com

Oh and I paid $20 for my platnium plugs and $25 for my 7mm plug wires.
