Trying to figure out a convertion...

Will a 1.8L tranny fit on a 2.0L engine?

And would this be my biggest concern?

I'm pretty sure the 1.8L Tranny will not fit a 2.0L Engine.

Your best bet would be to swap the Engine/Tranny/Driveshafts at once. The 2.0L Tranny would also be stronger than the 1.8L.

You will also need a 2.0L ECU, Wiring Harness, probably Fuel Pump. Try to put your hands on a wreck car and take whatever parts you need. You could go one more step and convert from a 1.8L to 2.0L Turbo!!!

You can find some info at the 1000 VFAQ

Hope this helps.

Ghislain.

I know with the auto trannies, the number on the firewall for the trannines in a 1.8L is the SAME as the one in the 2.0L. It might bolt up different, but the tranny itself seems to be the same...

I have a 93 laser... So If I buy a 90-91 talon or laser 2.0L NT/T.... Something for the winter... swap the engines from the winter to the summer car...

I'm thinking good Idea... I am getting a 92 NT engine for the swap, but I know I'm gonna need the parts...

You'll need complete cars to do this because you'll need to swap part of the harnesses...

Hey, I wanted to do that to , I have DL and was thikning of converting it to a TSI, it would be a better idea to get a complete car for the swap, check out wrecker yards, or car auctions if you have a buddy with a dealers license. I'm currently saving up for a wrecked TSI, I hope to pay about 1500, but I don't know if that's unreasonable,

This week I'm swapping my 1.8l 4G37 with automatic tranny to 2.0l NT with manual tranny

all you need to convert a 1.8l to a 2.0l NT is

- Complete engine with alternator
- engine Wiring harness with ECM and main relay
- driver's side engine mount
- a tranny that fit on 4G63 engine
- a twin cam hood

starter, fuel pump, power steering pump and drive shaft are the same.
you maybe need the instrument cluster for the RPM... but I'm not sure yet... i'm gonna know it when the engine will start!

See Ya

My swap is almost complete... waiting for my clutch to finish the swap... everything is bolt on... some difference between 2 connectors in the harness, I just used my 1.8l connectors and fixed the problem... the brake boost hose is too short...everything else is ok, front pipe , cross member engine mounts, fuel fittings are the same...

the engine bay look better with a 4G63 than with a 4g37!

See Ya later

Well my swap is finally done... Ont think to know... if you use a TSI FWD tranny you need the FWD turbo flywheel because if you use a NT flywheel with the TSI FWD tranny, the starter will not engage... the intake pipe from the 1.8l dows not fit the 2.0l throttle body... I fixed this problem with a RActive metal intake pipe... all the rest is bolt on

See Ya
