I have a cold air intake system that i want to put on my 1st gen but the MAF doesnt fit anywhere, i have to custom build the pipe anyway so i was wondering if it would work to fite the MAF in there? I could make it so that the MAF fit perfect not letting any air out but would it still work right if it was in the pipe instead of the middle of the filter? I made a diagram of the intake i would build its on paint so bear with me because its pretty rough. see it at this site

You can put the MAF anywhere in the intake as long as *all the air goes through it* (in your diagram it looks like some air is somehow going "around the MAF"?? This will cause a lean situation, possibly damaging/blowing the engine) and all the incoming air gets filtered (for obvious reasons).
