My 92 Eclipse GS smokes and stutters when taking off (5-speed). I've found a totaled 92 Eclipse GS with a motor with 118,000 miles on it, 5-speed, good wheels (I can use), same color interior etc (some interior dmg on passenger side).
My question: What should I offer this guy? The guy is asking $1000 obo.

Holy crap! buy it buy it

you can make your $1000 back off parts easy.

are you sure your car is toast though? it just sounds like bad timing/plugs/spark to me. bomb

did you wash your engine?

last time i did, some water got into the plugs and the engine stuttered at low rpm's.

the number $500 bucks comes to mind as soon as you said "totalled". sh!t, it might not even be worth that much cause the engine has lots of miles on it....

for around $750 you could pick up an NT JDM engine and drop it in your car and be ahead in the long run.

Buy it for $1000 and part it out....waste of perfectly good time and you'll will make about $5 dollars profit for the 16 hours you'll spend tearing the car apart.

That's $1000 USD

... almost $1600 Canadian

No way in hell is it worth that much... I'd offer $700usd at most.

Thanks for the opinions as I had almost forgot about this post because I've been so busy with college, work etc.
I'm thinking if the car is still around I'll offer him $600u.s and leave it. I could use the wheels as mine are hubs, the tires are in descent shape but I just bought new ones, and if the motor/tranny are descent I'll use those and sell mine for about $400u.s. or so.
