Hi Guys, I drive a 91 Talon ESI, I would LOVE to have the turbo version but I'm 17 and my insurance is 3500 a year as it is!! Any way I'm looking for sum ways to give it a lil' extra kick, so my question is what mods can I do for a reasonable price that will give me that extra bit of power? Any Ideas? PS. out of curiosity have any of you ever seen a CV joint/transaxel twist and literally tear apart? lol I have now.....250$ later James

lol ya that would be pretty tough, but I'd prob. just buy the turbo version a couple years newer if I was going to do that, I'm sure a turbo wouldn't be to good on my engine right now 200,000km I was looking for somthing a lil' less time consuming....... Thanx James

Tony Vaz turbo'd his 90/91 NT with 300k+ on the odometer (correct me if Im wrong there Tony), and even at under 8psi it pulls like a mofo.
Best part is, he did it all for under $700.
If that isn't cheap power, I dont know what is.

First and fore most remove the stock air can and filter, put the air can in your garage (it does more good there collecting dust than it does on the car) replace your stock air filter element with a K&N, ($75-$80), remove the silencer from behind the maf (search the site for vfaq's on how to do that) then try some headers, a cat-back...
It's not a Talon, it's a Talonol... And now it's in the garage with a connecting rod sticking out...

Personally I think keep the can and air chamber intact...( it works like a outboard or motorcycle boost bottle) ....just dropin a K&N and remove the silenser. I have tried it 3 or 4 different ways including drilled air can with 20 1" holes, No air can /no air chamber at all etc. With the can and air chamber intact I have better low end power and throttle responce and less idle problems. (you may loose a bit of pulling power at high speeds but these cars need all the torque they can get. With out the air can and air chamber there is no way my car will spin the tires from a dead stop.
Also do something with the exhaust... I got a full stainless 2.25 mandrel bent system for $400 . That includes the flex pipe, high flow cat, 1 resonator, 3" tip, no muffler and a 10 year warrenty . Low end power was improved some and top end is way better. a Ractive muffler is next...
