Ok, so 7psi is the recommended boost level when running a turbo on an n/t engine. I have a 13g turbo whose wastegate opens at 10psi (stock). Would I need to find an wastegate from a smaller turbo to get my 7psi max, or is there a mod that I can do so that I won't reach 10psi with my 13g accuator? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.
Jeff.

change the injectors and stay at 10 but hold yourself and do not abuse it.

I have the turbo injectors. Are you saying this from experience? I think 10psi is pushing it. Mike H. or Tony V. any advice? Thanks.

Jeff.

Get your hands on a logger and see how the engine behaves at 10psi. With enough fuel I don't see any reason why you should be afraid of running 10lbs.

No I don't have any experience with boost on a NT engine.

But I mentioned that don't abuse it. set it at 7 and gun it all the time or at ten and push it when needed. I think the latter setup survives better.

Amin he's asking for a way to set it at 7psi. He doesn't know how. Only way I can think of is to change the wastegate spring.

P.S. I knew someone running 13psi on a NT with no problem. From what I have heard, 17-18psi is the limit on stock NT pistons/rods...

maybe a actuator from Firefly family. Or 9b on 3000GT(what is the boost on them, I have no clue)

changing the spring is indeed a good way but is it possible to open the actuator assembly without destruction?

An actuator from a 300ZX TT would work well.

Stock boost on an 87 turbo sprint and firefly are 6-8psi.... maybe a wastegate can be used from one of them...

Jeff, sorry for the delayed reply but I just got my internet connection back. smile
Anyways I'm also using the 13g, stock NT fuel pump, and of course the NT engine. I have the LED mod so I know when the engine is in the "safe mode" Thre light will come on every 10 or so very hard launchs.
But I really don't hammer the engine hard because the clutch slips at the 9-10psi mark. Also at the higher revs (4500-6000) the engine sometimes bog down while at other times I have a hard time keeping the wheels on the ground. laugh
I'm using 450cc injectors from a 5spd Turbo but I'm going to try the 390's found on the automatics.
In my opinion stick with the stock Accuator and control the boost with the amount of throttle.

BTW have you done the conversion already or or you about to start?

Hey Tony. I'm about to start. I have all the parts lined up except the downpipe and ECU.

There are alot of knowledgable DSM guys here in Vancouver, but none with the hands on conversion experience. I hope you'll be around when I begin (very soon). Do you think installing the injectors/fpr/ECU would be the best thing to do first, before even putting the turbo on? I have the Turbo MAS but would rather keep the n/t one if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff.

Thats what I did. Installed ECU, Injectors, Resistor Pack, Mass Airflow Sensor, Knock Sensor.
I drove around like that for a month before iu installed the Turbo.

BTW you must use the Turbo Mas. If you use the NT one the car will run extremely rich. (took me a week to figure that one out tongue )
NOTE: also use the turbo air can because the NT is about 1 inch shorter and you won't be able to get the the turbo intake hose bolted up. One more thing is that the turbo MAS has 7 wires while the NT only has 6. the extra wire goes to the ECU.I don't have mine hooked up yet but I plan to.Its called the Air flow reset. Don't ask me what it does because I have no idea confused
