The Neon 420A and Avenger/Talon 420A engines are similar, but not the same. The Avenger/DSM engine has a different head, and manifolds. The intake and exhaust are on opposite sides. Acessory drive and placement is also different. I *think* the block is the same, so in theory you should be able to swap a 2.4 block into the car, and bolt all the 2.0 parts onto it. They share the same bore, but the 2.4 is a longer stroke.

I've got a 95 neon that I drive to work, (or anywhere else where I need some form of dependability) and I've often thought of this swap as well.. My Neon is getting tired, (almost 200,000 km by spring), and something with a little more pull would be nice, if its not a big project, (and it doesnt sound it) just a matter of a bolt up change the ecu and im off (im sure there are other small things to worry about, like intake position, a different air box, exhaust compatibility, etc..) I will pursue it.. Don't know anyone looking for a stock neon engine do you?
Back in the garage again.... This time for a serious working over.

I am very interested myself in this swap for my talon. Apparently it is more difficult to do in a talon/eclipse/avenger (you have to use the head from the 2.o and there are clearance problems with the 2.4 oil pan and the cross member) than it is on the neons. Do a search on www.2gnt.com/forum.htm for some info, there are a couple guys there that are doing the swap but i dont think anyone has finished it yet. Keep us posted on the results.

Have you guys make any progress on your 2.4L swaps? I don't know if anybody's seen this post about the 4G64 swap , but I lost a whole day reading this thread and loved it. Once you get past the bickering over the first few pages they get into some good details, and a couple nice pictures. Matt

MattThat's a swap for turbo cars. You have to use a 4G64 or earlier 2.4L motors. The later ones (or ones from 95+ Galants) all have the timing belts on the other side. Im doing a 2.4L swap into my '90 turbo but thats a whole different project.
