ok guys... if you havent read my previous posts, i ended up taking my car to northern performance to get my dp made for my custom setup! as of right now, theyve only done so far my hacked stock dp, and my oil lines...
im really starting to get annoyed and frustrated with these guys.... now they're telling me the car will not get finished... things left to do are my ic pipes, mounting my fmic and making custom brackets, and new hi-flow radiator cause "my stock one wont hold up" (what they said) and my wastegate has to get mounted on..
the biggest reason why im getting annoyed is well, basically i got a phone call this morning from them, and they're pretty my hack-jobbing my setup. this is what they told me " well, your wastegate is gonna sit after the turbo and is gonna get hooked up on the dp because if we put it on the manifold before the turbo, your turbo will never spool!" FVCK ME! I cant believe i took it to those guys!!! plus now im looking at a finished car by maybe thursday they say!
ill admit, im not extremely smart, but i think i know how my setup should work and im pretty sure every turbo guy out there will agree with me that a wastegate SHOULD NOT sit AFTER THE TURBO! now im really second guessing these guys...
anyways, do you guys think i should pull it out now and take it somewhere else? if i pull it out, any recommendations on a different shop? FVCK i wish i could finish it up myself but im on crutches and walking around pretty much sucks!
help me !!!!!!!!!

I would pull it out doesn't seem like they know what they are talking about / know what they are doing. The wastegate is not going to do anything after the turbo. The point of the wastegate it to allow some exhaust to escape before it reaches the turbine once boost level is reached stopping the the turbo from producing boost. So if it sits after the turbo it does nothing.

The wastegate can go "after the turbo". Mine does. It's mounted on the O2 housing. They may be duplicating this type of setup in your car. In fact, many people say that this configuration is preferrable. You really ought to figure out exactly what they've done before you go there and open a can of whoopass. Just make sure that you are making the decisions (based on their recommendations) abuot what you want done.

Why would they want to do that when there is a place already on the manifold for the wastgate to sit. Why are they fabbing things when all they have to do is bolt on the kit.

I have no idea, Vlad didn't provide the details of his kit so I didn't know that he's got a wastegate mount on his manifold. I'm just saying that the manifold is not the only place that a wastegate can be mounted. If he's already got a mount on his manifold for a wastegate, then yeah, it makes little sense what they're doing.

This is, of course, the only thing that makes sense and it's the way all wastegates work. In my case it routes the exhaust from a pre-turbine-wheel hole in the turbo's exhaust housing out to the atmosphere. If you look at the parts mounted on the car, it would look like this O2 housing / wastegate was all mounted "after the turbo" (though logically parts of it aren't). My only point was that they may have had this setup in mind when they made the original statement about mounting it on the downpipe, "after the turbo". HRC used to sell a combined external wastegate mount / downpipe like this a few years back. If they are indeed mounting it well after the turbine wheel, then obviously that's not going to work too well. Originally posted by Dave Hermenegildo: How will the wastegate on the manifold make the turbo never spooling? It won't. The turbo will spool fine with a mani mounted wastegate, and the boost control will work fine too. In the real world it makes no difference if it's on the manifold or on the O2 housing. If Vlad already has a manifold with a wastegate mount, then it would be a strange decision to do it any other way, and certainly something I'd expect them to ask him about before proceeding.

hey guys.... yeah, my external has to be completely fabbed.. its not even on the manifold, meaning you still gotta weld the pipe onto the flange so you bolt the thing on.
what i dont get is how my external is supposed to work if its after the turbo? my tial has 2 flanges, one sits on the bottom and the other to the side which means that one is to collect excess exhaust from the mani before the turbo, and the other to dump back into the dp. if the ext gate was placed after the turbo, the turbo itself wouldnt be able to stop spooling because the gate wouldnt be there to regulate the air! and then i can kiss my turbo goodbye!
im gonna go to the shop now to check up on my dp, as i havent even seen this miracle pipe yet... if anyone knows a good place to get it done, lemme know. i really need it done within the next day or two. going back to stock is not an option cause the jerks cut my stock dp, and i need my car to drive to work!!! lemme know guys!
thanks

Ok now we have a little bit more info.
Your External WG has to be mounted on the Exhaust Manifold before the Turbo.
What Turbo Kit are you getting installed???
What kind of Exhaust Manifold do you have???
Does it (Exhaust Manifold) have an External WG Flange on it???
Now this is what I would do if I'd be you;
I'd ask them where exactly they are planing to mount the "External Waiste Gate". I would then take my car out of that shop if the say after the Turbo. Plain and simple.
Their is a lot of good DSMer in your area. I'm sure that someone could help you with this install instead of dealing with these hack.
Hope this helps.
Ghislain.

ok guys... i just got back from the shop... after a few words, we pretty much came to the conclusion that there was some miscommunication on the mechanics fault. he pretty much told me he was really busy and that when he made the phone call to me this morning, he really didnt know what he was talking about. so with that said, there is a little bit more understanding in how i wanted this setup to be.
hehehe... i should clear some things up cause i know you guys are trying to help. first off, i have a 2gnt eclipse. totally different setup than the 4g63t. there's no o2 housing. the manifold i have was complete custom made log style. and im gonna run a t04b turbo with the tial ext gate.
so, i was almost impressed when i got there today to see the progress.... hacked dp was complete, egt pyro was in, new rad and slimfan was in, oil feed and return was in, and the fmu and walbro was already in prior to the install. the reason why i say almost is because my gate still needed to be put on and same with my fmic and charge pipes. other than that, and hooking up a couple of vac lines, i should see it tomorrow....? maybe... he still has to fab a bracket for the fmic to fit, plus my blitz bumper might need some cutting...
overall, now im not really mad and annoyed, just really impatient and im running out of excuses to tell work that "i wont be in today cause...."...
thanks so much for the imput guys!!
