I'm looking to get the talon painted soon but I'm only painting it to sell it. So needless to say i dont need a mint paint job but i dont want crap either. Does anyone know of someone that can take care of some rust spots here and there and paint the whole car for fairly cheap. i dont really know how much paint jobs cost because i have never had a car painted before so i need some examples to determine what cheap is... I could do the body work myself because i have done that before but i would rather someone just do it all for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ryan

the car is dark green with the original black roof. i want to keep the car the same colour rather then changing colours. i kinda like the green. thats cool if you could keep me posted on how your car turns out. im thinking i might get my prelude painted at Maaco soon and if that turns out ok i will take the talon in.
thanks man,
ryan

Maaco offers a basic paint job for $350, but it goes up from there as they pull dents and remove rust.

Maaco has a few known complain (but for that price, people show not even complain) 1. unmatch color (but u are painting your whole car, not a problem here) 2. overspray, but you can cover up lot of area yourself, plus you are selling your car.

Keep us updated, I've got a few giant rust spots I'd like fixed (but not for 2000 as quoted by a local shop)

I have never once heard of , or seen a Maaco paint job where the results were good, and the owner was happy.
These are the guys that are famous for having paint strip off in the carwash due to non-existant prep and primer work.
They are usually reserved for people trying to dump a car and getting the quickest cheapest piant job to sell off on some sucker.

^^What he said. Jaremy pretty much summed it up. I've even known a few guys that paid extra for Maaco's "premium" service and got similar results. It's really very simple math. If a good body shop charges $1000-$1500 for a basic, nothing fancy, no colour change, no body work, no fancy paint job and Maaco quotes one third that price for the same job, how is this possible? It's all about time and materials. They spend less time and less on materials. They simply CANNOT make money taking all kinds of time prepping the car. Does this mean that Maaco has no function in the world? Of course not. In fact, it's probably perfect for what you're looking for. You say you're painting the car to sell, correct? That's probably 80% of Maaco's business. The paint job will look perfectly fine for a number of months--long after it's been sold. I say, go to Maaco.

no im not selling the car. I just finished putting a body kit on it and molded the side skirts and rather then driving a crayon box around and having limited money for a paint job, Id like to find somewhere that can do it for around $1000, I would just like a basic gloss black, nothing fancy, and I know there is alot of work to painting a car, so i might just have to wait and save up the extra $1000 and get it done right I guess.

no im not selling the car. Actually, I was referring to the original poster. In any case, my advice still stands. That is, if you plan on keeping the car for more than a few months, you'll almost certainly be disappointed with Maaco.
