Is it maybe time to start a shootout 2007 thread? Has anyone made their reservations yet? Is everyone staying at the Plantation again? Has anyone contacted them for pricing yet??

I'm definately coming down this year. I haven't been before, so I don't really know what goes on as far as planning.

I was wondering when the new thread would get started.

Not sure if I'll be going this year or not. Will have to wait and see. If I do, hopefully there's room at the plantation so we don't have to drive from the gull to party.

Ahhhh finally, someone started a thread... laugh

Yes I will be coming down this year and staying at the plantation. Making a reservation this time so we don't have to camp.

And this year, I will be racing!!

Eric Kellar and I will be coming down for sure. Hopefully with the ladies.

Edit:

Does anyone know for sure the dates yet? Have we got any prices?

Randy, last year we met up with a few from Cobourg/P-Dot area and cruised down as a group.

I am coming down for sure this year. Ryan, me and Randy should meet up with you and whoever else you will be cruising with at 28/401. At the Port Hope turn off.

So the plantation is where everybody is staying? When should I make reservations by. Any other costs I should know about other than Hotel/Food/Ga? What date is the shootout this year?

Plantation is about 80US a night give or take. Basically, plan on 200CDN for accomodations, as we are heading up Friday morning and coming back Monday morning. I am planning about 500US for everything for this year.

I'll be attending again as well. If I do not have a dsm running I am not going to bother, it just doesn't feel right going otherwise. The cavalier could barely keep up. I might camp because I am cheap not sure yet but I will start putting away $20 a week or so when I start working after I am done school so I have enough coin.

I'll likely travel with the same crew as last year and also be bringing a bunch of tools for any mishaps.

Sounds like public drunkeness could be the end of the shootout. I think its best I stay home.

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

We ended up "camping" at the track last year. If you can sleep though 1000hp muscle cars rawring down the track till nearly 6am, id suggest it. It`s probably the cheapest place stay, and have shower facilities.

I am definately down for the Caravan. And I think I am going to stay at the hotel too. As much as I like the sound 1000hp muscle cars, I just don't think I could sleep through it, regardless of how drunk I am.

Yes, and Adam, if you come, we'll try and find better accommodations for you this time buddy!

I do have a friend that may be coming down. He's not a DSMer, however right into the 3000GT VR4. Anyway, I figure if he can snag his parents van or something, be a good chase vehicle for parts and tools. That way we can bring some bigger parts we may not be able to in our cars.

we got a room that day, didn't book ahead.. but that was probably luck. Would say the sooner the better, and just dont ask a cop for directions if you get lost down there. lol

Yah I don't mind camping as long as it isn't raining. The hot sun forces your hungover body to wake up, thus sleeping in is a non issue.

Ryan I plan on driving one of my cars down, I guess I better start working or something. Last year we camped in the yard of the plantation, had a portable bbq, lots of beer and booze and we were a closer walk to the bonfire. My guts were paying for it by monday and the bacon gravy I happened to endure on the way back just made things worse.

So depending on how much money I save up will determine where I stay I guess and don't let your gf put her wallet on the roof of her car. We almost had to go home as soon as we got there, but some doctor found it and called her parents, then tracked us down and dropped it off.

Yeah that was some luck with the wallet for sure. The people at the plantation are more than awesome with us DSMers during the shootout, and I would certainly give them our business again. We camped out one night, and the other night we shared a room with 6 of us (3 couples) and they were cool with both. I'm booking ahead this time, and for anyone making the return trip I DO NOT suggest that you leave at 5pm on Sunday night. I almost died during the 11 hour drive. Either stay til monday morning, or leave earlier on Sunday.

Yeah, a lot of the Indystars guys stay at the Plantation as well. It's quiet and about a 20 min drive from Buschur/Raceway.

And, on Saturday night, if you wanna rip into Norwalk to give the cops something to do, there's always a party Saturday night!

Sounds like a good time. I am pumped already. Hell I would camp at the plantation. Camping doesn't bother me at all. If it's going to save costs it's the way to go. Since I have never been to the plantation before is there designated camping areas or do people just pitch tents on the front lawn? lol.

We just asked the owners if we could camp made a deal for like $20 for the weekend. There is a shower in the pool area/change room thing more like a shed though lol. There is lots of space just past the motel towards the lake, a grassy area, we just took the car right over there and had tunes goin and the bbq and drinks. The gf and her friend from florida went kayaking in the lake.

Yea, but I wouldn't have a problem letting you guys who are camping come in to our room to shower. So would most of the other guys!

yeah, the camping was done on the front lawn sort of deal.. I would definately do that again though, minus that ridiculous car alarm at like 5am. And like Ryan said, most DSM'ers would let most people in for a shower if needed/wanted.

I wanna go this year... I would wanna camp at the Plantation, anyone know forsure if we can this year?

That'd be a little more fun then sitting inside.

Also when do you guys plan on heading down as a group? Fri morning?

OK I will call the Plantation and make some reservations (unless someone already called)

I'll find out how much a room is and how many people will fit.

I'll post prices shortly.

Bad news Ryan.. well, good news in a way. I don't think that I'll be able to make it this year frown I am going to Kanat in the beginning of July til the end of August for Basic. That's if my CF MP papers are complete. I've already finished the interviews, aptitude test, and all of the paperwork now I'm just waiting on Ottawa for my approval. That'll make me a reserve MP.

Well, I'm surprised the rivalry hasn't started yet... little less than 3 months till the shootout and we haven't heard too much from a select couple (I won't mention Mark or Steve's name)

I'd commense the smack talk by saying I fart in someone's general direction. But I have no car to back up anything. Im sure the neon's 17.24@83mph will not compare to anything that is going to be at the shout out. Unless theres a mid track t-belt victim.

Going to be a quiet thread this year I guess.

Speaking of... isn't it time we changed the forum title to "Shootout 2007"?

Here is what I got from the Plantaion website

$69 per night
$88-95 Friday and Saturday
2-4 people (I assume that is 2 twin beds in a room)

So let me know who wants to get a room and I'll make the reservation.

Do people ussually come down on Friday and leave Sunday or what.
Personally I want to make the most of this weekend so I will go early and stay late. Whatever everyone else is doing....

I think we went down Friday and left Monday morning. If I can remember to I will call them and ask about camping as I did that last year they will probably remember me and see if they are still up for that and see how many people could do that, as its not a camp ground there is limited space.

Yeah, we went down Friday last year.

I will be reserving a room this year for the weekend. Adam, if you and Lydia want to split on a room this year for the weekend with Sam and I, we could do that. Should be around $150 a couple for the weekend. That's Friday-Monday (3 nights)

Although I wont be attending this year, Ive been reading the responses and was wondering if there is any place where we can purchase C16 while were down there. Im not sure if Customs would let you cross with that.

Well, I just called the Plantation and made my reservation. He tells me I am the first one for the shootout weekend? That surprised me a little bit....

In any case, he tells me that double rooms (2 double beds) go for $95. on Friday and Saturday nights, and $69. on Sunday night.
Single rooms (which he tells me are the little cottages a little further back) go for $74. Friday and Saturday night, and $59. on Sunday night. I will be staying in one of the litte singles smile

He says he remembers a bunch of car guys from last year, but was unaware that we were an organized group. He didn't seem to want to offer any sort of "group discount", but DID say that AAA members can get 10% off smile

It's not a question of if I want to go or not it's a question that I'll be working at a new Unit (429sqn ha hou haa!!!), with a brand spanking new plane (scheduled arrival 7/9 Aug), a hell of an acceptance check to do, a multitude of airworthiness process to comply with plus countless of training to finish before it can take it's first flight.

Even then I might have to go where ever that spanking new plane goes, probably some horse and dog show...

Oh, yeah and on top of that, maybe spend a little time with Lisa. Would be nice after been away for 4 1/2 months...

I think that you (Ryan) have a better chance of going than I have...

Wish me luck.

Ghislain.

Let's hope for your sake they push the arrival date to say... 26 August area? laugh laugh

As for me going... well come hell or high water I'll be there. I am racing this year and I want to dyno.

Well all, getting to be about a month and a half or so before the big day!

Who's all coming? Have we had anyone confirmed yet?

What kind of caravan do we plan on doing this year? Honestly, I think it would be fun if we did a massive caravan to the shootout. Start from Ottawa and pick everyone up along the way down the 401.

I'll be going, but not in the talon. Still undecided whether we are taking the wife's Crapalier, or my choice, the scooter smile

I am still planning on going Ryan. I am definately up for the Caravan. I would meet up at The HWY 28 turnoff in Port Hope or somewhere around the 115 turnoff.

I could meet at the 115 turnoff too. I still gotta figure out where I'm sleeping though. And I gotta get my car TUNED!

Slight change in my military plans, which opens up a possibility that I might be able to make it to the shootout!! This change in plans is annoying though, I was supposed to go off for my basic training course on July 2nd, but I haven't been called yet so I don't think I'll be going to that frown .

Well as it turns out I'm an idiot.

I agreed to go on a biking trip to Tremblant with some friends so they booked it but I just clued in yesterday that it's the same weekend as the shootout.

We were so pumped to do the bike trip that we paid in full. Only problem is it's non-refundable....Shitty deal..

Looks like no Shootout for me this year unfortunately...Maybe by next year I'll have grown a brain and won't make a mistake like this.

Sorry Pete, looks like you're flyin' Solo this time.

I want to go but I don't think I will have a vehicle just can't afford it. Who wants a tag along? Ryan(s)? Randy, Peter?

I'm looking to camp or something cheap. I will only have about $300 for the trip.

Thats way more then enough. Hitch a ride and give a little gas money ($50ish). Camping is near free, rest is booze, cigarettes and food. The US is CHEAP for all these things. Trust me, $300 will last you.

Ya you can tag along with me. I was thinking about camping anyways. Do you have to reserve campsites?

I really gotta do some tuning if I want to lay down a respectable ET though.

No, just show up at the plantation with us Randy, they will let you camp there. They were pretty cool about it last year considering we rented out the whole damned place.

Edit: Would have offered Adam, but Sam's coming with me and I don't have back seats smile

Well looks like I have a couple options maybe. So Ryan W or Randy I will go with one of you guys, seeing as your coming from the Kawarthas we'll probably jaunt down to meet up with everyone at Eastons at port hope or the 115.

As far as campsites are concerned, if the owners of the plantation are willing to we could ask them if we could pitch a couple tents, they had no problem with it last year and it was cheap, I wouldn't worry about reserving anything, I never reserved anything last year. There is always somewhere to crash.

Randy if you want me to call the plantation and find out I can do that, I just need to be able to remember to do so.

Most people plan on going but back out last minute for whatever reason. I've been 3 or 4 years now. Always is a blast and worth the trip if you can make it.

Ya I definately want to be in a "caravan". What time do you guys leave on Friday?

Adam, are you still planning on coming down with me? Because a friend of mine might want to ride down with me, not sure... O ya and I never called the Plantation to ask about camping out on their lawn.

When do most guys come back?

My car doesn't like extended highway driving in hot weather apparently, I might need a new rad this week before I make the drive. stupid front mount...

Don't have an exact time in mind yet, waiting to hear back from Paul. I am also having issues with the head gasket in the wife's Cavalier, so not sure yet what vehicle we are taking...but would also feel better as part of a caravan.

I am thinking perhaps 10:00am is being on the US side of the border??

As for coming back, not sure about everyone else, but I will be leaving there Monday morning..

Well all, after getting my car together and driving it to Ottawa/Pontiac (Quebec) and back, she's not ready for the shootout.

BAHHHH!!!!! I can't risk the car, a lot of drivetrain noise I won't have time to fix.

As for the T-shirts, I am still going to have them made, and Randy/Ziggy, I will ship them to you at no additional cost.

Anyone else will have to have them shipped.

I think Randy is still going to the shootout as far as I know, so you could probably ship mine with Randy's, and he could bring them to me. Would save a couple bucks, and time is running out also. Leaving for the s/o in 4 days...

What's happening there on Friday? Why do you want to be there so early. US side of the border is like 4 hours for me, so I'd have to leave by 6 am to be in that caravan...

No SPECIAL reason....just would like to avoid huge border lineups if we go a little later in the morning, and it IS still about a 5 hour drive from Niagara, is it not? I wouldn't mind not arriving TOO late in the day, and I need to stop in near Cleveland....drop off someone there for the weekend....
