Hey guys, I was wondering what I should do about the roof of my black 2g.. The roof has gone white, but the rest of the body is black. It has been like that since I got the car, but I finally want to do something about it.

Thing is, I dont want to go and spend a ton of cash on it, since I am doing the 2gb eclipse conversion, and need to get the whole car repainted anyway. Is it safe to sand the roof down with sandpaper and just use those colour match paints at CTC or NAPA? Then would I have to go through the whole getting a base coat thing? I dont want to go expensive since paint will be in the fall, but I do want to hide the ugly white crap.

This is roughly what it looks like (disregard my 'special' friend lol )

lol is that Alan??

On topic though. I have the same thing on my car. You could probably sand it I would imagine. But the black you put down might not shine/match the rest of the car. But it would probably get rid of the white though. I think I will just wait till I can get the whole car painted.

2g awd, Back to dsms here I come.

Isn't it just oxidised? If so, I believe you can use rubbing compound to remove the oxidation. No need to sand and paint.

I thought it was the paint fading through. You know where you can get this rubbing compound?

Eric. If theres a chance it can ruin the paint. We can test on my car. Its fast enough when its running I don't care what it looks like..

Should be able to get it at Canadian Tire. Does some reading up first...Google is your friend.
Rubbing compound is aggressive since you need to remove a layer of paint (the oxidised stuff) and then wax again. You might be able to get away with elbow grease and something milder than rubbing compound. Don't know what, but that's were doing some research comes in (unless somebody here pipes up).

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I'll google it for a while and see what is the best route.
