Im fairly new at driving a manual tranny. last night I revd to about 4000 rpm and pretty much just released the clutch. I clank noise (like something metal dropping or hitting) occured? I drove around a bit more and all seems fine. Could I have damaged something? What is the BEST way to get a quick launch off safely (without breaking stuff)?

help a newbie out.

Thanks

I've found that launching works best with a quick slip (not dump) of the clutch at 5000-5500 RPM. If you want to be safer, slip a little slower, but slipping for too long will burn the clutch.

The clunk may have been the driveshaft hitting the floor due to a worn carrier bearing.

Check the u-joints. You may have a worn or seized one (or two or three).

Ouch.. Thats all I can say.
THat "klunk" you heard was probably your engine mounts going to there limit... At 4000RPM and just dumping your clutch, I feel there pain from here in Nova Scotia. ANd any and all other drive line catching up.
If you have not heard it since, then I would not be to worried about it. Just learn how to do it correctly before you attempt it again.. Trust me, 2G AWD trannys are not easy to find.

Everythings new. Updates will be soon.
