I'd like to start off by saying that I know this type of group buy has been tried before in the past. I'm looking to purchase a 2G hatch in hopes of taking advantage of the strength in the Canadian dollar. I didn't just decide a couple hours ago to try and start this group buy, it's been about a half a month in the making. I wanted to make sure I could get as much information as I could before I posted this. I've been in contact with a representative from GTfabrications.com named Culver M. He's answered alot of questions that I've asked him about my group buy. I think I've covered all bases, so heres the information I have. Feel free to post questions you may have and I will forward them to him.

COMPANY/Products;
GTfabrications is offering hoods, hatches, doors, fenders, bodykits and other various pieces. They also have parts for other cars so this group buy is not just limited to DSMers.

SHIPPING;
I received a shipping quote to my address in Fort Erie, Ontario. If your not sure of where Fort Erie is, it's about 20 mins from Niagara Falls and boarders with Buffalo, NY. Shipping will be done with a custom built pallet that can hold 12-15 hoods and other small parts. The shipping quote I obtained was $700-750, which for 12 people works out to just a bit over $60, and for 15 people it works out to roughly $50. I just want to make it clear that this is just a quote, final shipping costs are dependant on the size of the order, overall weight, and size of the pallet. Another thing to consider in this is the additional costs of duties and taxes from Canadian customs.

DISTRIBUTION;
Once the order has been shipped, it will be coming to my mother house in Fort Erie. The products will be stored in a locked garage. Items are to be picked up in Fort Erie. Deliver is available at your own expense. If I have the time, I would be more then happy to deliver them to you with a small delivery fee. I would also be able to meet halfway to save extensive traveling times for members who live outside of the GTA and surrounding areas. I think it would be more beneficial to pick the items up yourself in case there is any complications with my delivery. I have a pick up truck and my mother has a minivan. I'm not suggesting I wouldn't use care with handling your products, I just don't want to be responsible for others on the road.

PAYMENT;
GTfabrications requires a 50% deposit up front. The rest of the balance will need to be paid when items are in stock and ready to be shipped out. I am considering opening a small account in order to recieve money, and transfer funds to them.

CARBON FIBER INFO;
Some information on their carbon fiber;
-2X2 twill weave - aircraft grade
-Clear coated
-Rolled edges on hoods and hatches
-Colours availabe; blue, yellow, red, orange and silver

DISCOUNTS;
I asked what kind of discounts were available for a group buy of 12-15 people, and these are the prices he generated for a bunch of 1G and 2G parts;

-2G hood: $380
-2G hatch: $380
-2G doors: $1300 (pair)
-2G fenders: $595 (pair)
-1G hood: $380
-1G hatch: $295
-1G door: $1550 (pair)
-1G fenders: $595 (due for completion in 02/08)

These prices are for carbon fiber products, if you happen to see something on their website (www.gtfabrications.com) that you would like to add as part of this group by, please let me know and I will gladly ask what the discounted price will be.

I know this is alot of information to disgest, but I wanted to be sure I had all bases covered before I posted this so there would be no confusion. If you have additional questions, please contact me. I am looking for 12-15 people to get this going, but the more, the better.

My contact information is;
Email; Jay_P182@hotmail.com
Phone; 289-407-2187
or PM

I know there is one key thing missing to this, and that of course is pictures. I have requested photos of the products and they will be posted as soon as I get them.

Thanks alot!

I'd be up for a OEM style 1G hood. Possibly the rest of the panels as well(save me from doing paint/body).

Whats the plan if some show up damaged? What type of time line are you thinking for ordering?

Do the doors accept glass, interior panels, weather stripping ect?

From their site:

1G Carbon Fiber Doors:
RACE ONLY!

1G Carbon fiber Doors. Approximate weight 19 lbs.

Bolt on application. Windows require Lexan.

Roll cage highly recommended.

So, what is the timeline on this Jay? I would be interested in a 1G Hood and Hatch since the price is right. Now, are the holes for the rear spoiler already there or do you have to make them?

Hey guys, thanks for the interest and the questions.

GTfabrications has a policy where products are shipped and a signature is required for the package. If the package is damaged in anyway, I will simply contact GTfabrications, tell them the situation and not sign the package.

I don't have a set time frame, I am hoping before Christmas, but I understand people have other commitments with their money during the holiday season, so that got me thinking perhaps after Christmas (mid to late January).

The holes will have to be drilled to fit your spoiler Ryan, I could perhaps ask them to drill the factory holes if you need that done.

Thanks again guys.

That would be a good question to ask for both the 1 and 2G hatches.

I am interested in a hood at the very least, however I would wait until the new year to really get this going. Get a good base number of people to buy and then consider it in the new year. Money is usually tight for most during Christmas.

Possibly set a deadline for end of Jan/beginning of Feb?

I've tried to get as much information as possible before I posted this group buy, but I will continue to work with GTfabrications to smooth out details and ensure this group buy is successful.

For those who frown upon hotmail email accounts, please feel free to email at my school email address, (jp05qw@brocku.ca). I listed the hotmail account because I use it the most and it's the best way to get a hold of me in terms of emails.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in a 2G Hood, if your doing things mid-late January.

as for delivery what kind of fee you looking to have it delivered to London, or to meet half way? (Need to know so I can set a budget)

Also are the Hoods hatches etc. 100% carbon fiber? I know some other companies use a fiberglass filler layer..

I am ready to buy a CF 1g hood as well, so you can count me in as well as long as the quality is great. It would sure be nice to see come pics if they have any, of both sides of the hood and hood lock.

Looking at their site it doesn't appear they have 1ga hoods. If they do then maybe I won't bother making my own!

I'd be up for a 1gb OEM style hood.
But maybe i'm missing something but I don't see 1g hoods on the site, just doors.

Murtaza- I would assume that the carbon fiber hoods/hatches, etc are 100% carbon. I will ask though just to be sure. As for delivery, I'm thinking like $20-30 to meet halfway. I don't mind driving it to London, but it is going to cost a bit more. I'm only going to charge the price of gas there and back. London will be a 3 hour trip for me, weather permitting.

Brandon- The colours they offer are the ones that are listed, but I can ask them if green is a possiblity.

Brian- I actually got an email from Culver (rep at GTfabrications), he mentioned he saw my post and he read that your looking for some VW stuff, he says he can get some things, so if your looking for something in particular, please let me know. This group buy is not limited to just DSMs.

Everyone that is interested in the 1g stuff, don't worry, they make it. He emailed me an inventory of 1G and 2G parts that they carry (I listed them in my original post) and it included hoods and hatches for 1Gs.

Sounds good then.. count me in.. if its january when this is happening.

Oh 1 last question The silver thats your typical C/F weave right? I always thought it was white in the weave.. but I guess silver sounds about right too.

Didn't see them listed on their site but have seen other companies make the spark plug cover & also the 2g hatch cover, that may have some interest, if they offer them.

Another thing to possibly ask, for those on here who like to do custom work, is if you can get 12X12" sheets of carbon fiber, for making gauge pods, bezels, things like that.

Daren - I will look into the hatch cover and the spark plug cover that you mentioned.

Ryan - I will also ask if they can send sheets for the DIY'er.

Brandon - I emailed Culver at GTfabs and he said that they don't generally deal in greens so it would have to be ordered, rendering it more expensive then the other colours. If you are still interested, I can get you a rough estimate to work with.

I am hoping to get a list by the end of next week of people interested so I can get an idea of how many people will be ordering things. Once I know the amount of hoods, hatchs, etc people would like to order, I can start looking to get a better estimate on shipping.

Thanks guys!

I'm confused. The GTFab site doesn't mention 1G hoods (unless I'm missing something?)

So are they offering things to us that they don't have on the site?

If so, is the 2G hood as pictured on the site (vented) or is it something else?

Thanks

Jeff - I have been in contact with a rep from GTfabrications named Culver M. He sent me an inventory list of things that they currently offer for DSM's. All the things I listed are striaght from his email. The 2g hood is OEM, check out the pictures. Thanks.

Colin - This group buy is happening at the end of Jan. early Feb. The holidays are a crazy time for most people so I don't want to create more stress by pushing this group buy. At this point I'm just looking to get a ballpark idea of how many people will be interested so I can get a more accurate quote on shipping.

MORE INFO ON CARBO FIBER;

I have been informed that the hoods, etc are a fibergalss skeleton with a carbon fiber exterior. Culver has informed me that this is the industry standard.

If anyone has any special requests, like custom carbon pieces, let me know and I can see if they can manufacture it. Thanks guys!

1. Jay Pham- 2g Hatch
2. Ryan Laliberte - 1Gb OEM Hood
3. Thomas Wong - 1GB OEM hood
4. Colin Shainline 1GB OEM HOOD

Thats the list as of Dec. 08. 2007.
It's obviously not enough to get this group buy going, so if theres anyone else out there that is serious, add your names to the list. **This group buy will not take place until after the holidays**

For now I am in on a 2g hood

For the 2g doors, do they accept stock interiors like power windows, power locks, ect. I was thinking about getting lexan or fiberglass windows cut and use that like the stock window but not sure how cost efficient that would be. Also for those getting the 2g hatches, what are you doing about the rear windows, and how much/hard is the install?

I have talked to Jay, and have offered to pick up hoods that are paid for and bring them to a meet, or to my house in Georgetown. Georgetown is about 20 minutes northwest of Brampton. People could then pick them up from me, and save the drive to N.F. and save a delivery fee.
If people like, they can install their hoods in my driveway, and I'll deal with their old hoods.

I am in on a 1gb stock hood.

It's been a long time coming that I've wanted one of these.

I'll need help installing hood pins/the hood/etc.

Looks like I won't be in this group buy anymore. My friend and I just recently got our 1gb CF hoods made here locally in Ontario. Took them 1.5 weeks to make them and I just picked them up yesterday. The quality is excellent, and I felt more comfortable seeing the product before I bought it smile
Also Jay, I did not want to wait till spring.

Just incase this group buy doesn't happen:
I can assure all the guys who want one in this thread, that I can definately get one going and everyone will get to see the EXACT product they are buying, directly from the manufacturer before they pay for it in full. Eliminate the middle man and no need to worry about damage.
Anyways as I said I can get into more details, IF this group buy doesn't happen.

I can't wait to put this bad boy on in the spring smile

Yes, he makes them for 2g's and 1g's with pop-ups. He can also do hatches as well, but I would not recommend one of those for a sreet car.
If I get enough interest and people, he will make 1g stock fenders in fiberglass as well. Now all those 1g guys can forget about fenders ever rusting again.

Good to know there's a local place to get them done! The only thing is... I wouldn't tread much in this group buy, as it will really hurt the OP of this group buy.

Maybe start another one? I know you want to wait to see if this one goes through but.. if you are intereseted in starting another one... nothing really stopping you. wink

Jay started this group buy, so I feel it's not fair to him if I was to start another one. It WOULD effect this one.

Just thought I'd post the info as I originally said I was interested in this group buy.

If possible, I would like to see pictures of what the carbon fiber looks like in different colours. I was thinking about getting mine in red but was afraid that it might not look right on a red car.

If the group buy goes down around January February, then I would be interested in a hood and truck.

But the hood I would like one with the double scoop. I had the plain carbon fiber on one of my older talons. Time for something different.

Does anyone know how good the quality is?

When i got my old talon it came with the hood. And the hood had a few big flaws.

Does anyone have their products installed on their cars? How well does it close on the latch??

Im not undermining this group buy. Just proving that the local price is probably not better than the deal we would obtain through this gb. rotate

I'm probably going to pick up a 2g hood.
Do they make mkiv supra hoods as well?

Well since you asked if I did a GB, the price for a hood would be $380 or less, no shipping. You even get to see it smile If there are any problems you have a manufacturer to contact right here too. Beat that.

Come on Reza... I don't want to have to "lay down the hammer". laugh

Please be nice and start another thread? Pretty please? laugh laugh

Guys, if you are interested, contact him via PM. I know Reza does not mean any disrespect for Jay, and Reza's not the kind of guy who will steal another thread. This group buy is for the CF products from the states.

How big is this list? I want a 2G CF Hood.

I kinda just browsed the thread, so may have missed some things, but how much, roughly, to get that brought down to London, ON? And when do you need the deposit by? If you can get back to me with a rough guestimate of a final price (hood plus estimated shipping), I'd appreciate it.

WHOOOAA!! I go away for a bit to do some Christmas shopping and this is what happens, lol. No worries Reza.

This group buy is going to come together at the end of Jan./early February simply because I'm not going to push a group buy asking for $450-600 at this time in the year. Alot of people have others commitments with their money and that is completely understandable. I started this group buy becuse I was interested in a 2g hatch and I happened to stumble upon GTfabrications, I did some research and found people were pretty happy with their quality, and they diversity of their products. I was drawn to their willingness to do custom parts in carbon, or fiberglass.

Although I would like to see this group buy happen because prices are great, the quality is excellent, and their customer service is top notch...If people decide they want to go with the local guys, thats fine with me. I'm not making any profit from this group buy, so it's no skin off my back. If I have to wait to get a hatch at this price again, then I will have to wait. I just wanted to extend the offer to the members of this site that were looking for a hatch, hood, or fenders so we can all get what we want, at prices that are more then fair, and at a quality that is guaranted to please.

Like I said before, the more people interested in this group buy, the better for all. If anyone wants to go with the local company, remove yourself from the list (if applicable).

Thanks guys.

Jay, if you can, contact GTFab and see if you can't get pictures of hoods/hatches/doors in different colors. I wouldn't mind my hood in a red, since my car is red. I think many people on here would like to see the colors to see if it will match up with their cars.

Yes I too am interested in the red. I want to know if it is completely red or black and red weave. I have looked at other sites and seen both of these patterns.

Hey, we're well into the new year so I want to start getting things finalized to see if this group buy will stand. I need some committment, so I'd like to start a definite list. Please add your name to the list, and the product(s) you desire. My very first post is detailed and hopefully you can get most of your answers there, if not, feel free to contact me. Like I've said before, I want this to happen by the end of the month, or early Feb. Thanks guys!

Yeah, my contact there has emailed me and asked if this group buy is still happening. It seemed I had alot of interest in the early stages, but now, it's been reduced to two people. I'm going to give it another week before I decide to end this buy. I would be willing to extend it until the beginning of Feb. but I won't let it go much past that.

Those who are interested, thank you for your interest in this group buy, I hope this works out because I'd like to get a quailty hatch at a great price. Thanks again.

2. Kenrick Miller - Hood/Hatch

Like I said, I don't mind extending the group buy until Feb. I just want to make sure the interest is still there to lock in the prices outlined in my original post. Please add your name to this list if you are seious, thanks!

count me in for a hatch as long as shipping is reasonable now that there are only like 3-4 people.

I contacted GTFab and got some answers for those that asked and are still interested in the group buy

Ryan,
" yes, you will be able to drill holes for the spoiler. There are dimples on the 1G hatch in the OEM locations. The 2G hatch has been made with a smooth surface. You will have to locate the spoiler holes on your own."

Here are some pics of the 1G Hatch was taken by, what appears to be, one of there customers

1G hatch
[Linked Image]

Close up of dimples
[Linked Image]

GT Fab Hatch (left) vs VIS Hood (Right) weave pattern
[Linked Image]

I think the GT Fab weave actually looks better but that could be due to the fact that your comparing a hatch to a hood.

I am assuming the reason for the 2G's not having dimples is due to there being 4 different stock spoilers.

Rob,
Right now we have about 3 people that have confirmed that they are 100% in.

From what I have researched, the quality of there carbon fiber is excellent in both looks and fitment. I have added some links that I have found.
http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185321&highlight=fabrications
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/app...brications-carbon-fiber-hatch-1g-2g.html

I have not seen these in person but if anyone else has please feel free to comment

Scott,
Right now we have 3 people that have confirmed.
1. Jay Pham - Hatch
2. Kenrick Miller - Hood/Hatch
3. Mike Degli Angeli

There are 14 more people that have shown interest but just waiting for them confirm that they are still in.
1. Colin Shainline
2. Ryan Laliberte
3. Ghislain Goudreau
4. Murtaza Saadat
5. Thomas Wong
6. Brandon Clement (Green weave would be extra)
7. Bashar Khalifeh
8. Steve Whitman
9. Mike Duarte
10. Peter Harry Cortesis
11. Peter Urach
12. Scott Sennema
13. DaveBarlow
14. Chris Esquejo (If they make 1991 Galant hoods)

So if everyone that has shown interest is in then it would be 17 people so far so I don't think we will have a problem getting at least 10 people.

Ryan,
They will be sending us pictures of the different colours as soon as possible.

Ruben,
what kind of 2G Eclipse pictures are you looking for? Isn't that a picture of a 2G Eclipse with a carbon hood as your avatar? Be a bit more specific on what your looking for and I will see what I can do.

Ryan,
The exact date is as to when this is going to happen will have to be determined my Jay. My suggestion would be to give people until the end of the month to confirm what they want to order and to gauge interest. If we have enough interest then I would say to have the 50% deposit by Feb 15. Again these dates are just merely my suggestion.

Daren,
They do not make carbon fiber spark plug covers or hatch covers. The minimum order for small items is 15 units and I don't think we will be able to get that many to commit.

Ryan,
You can buy sheets of carbon fiber for your own personal custom items. They sell sheets up to 40 x 36 in any colour. I will be asking them about prices on different size sheets

Some items can not be made in color carbon due to the dimensions of the part. Please let us know which part you are interested in the color carbon and we will let you know if it is possible.

There you have it folks, the answers to all your questions. Kenrick has taken some time and beaten me to the punch regarding questions.
The group buy is still going, I'm waiting for that list to fill up to at least 10-15 people.
Remember this is not just a 1g-2g group buy. If they make something that your interested in, sign your name on the list and we'll include your item on the pallet.

Lets see some committment here guys. Thanks for the support Kenrick.

Do the 2g hoods come with a riveted loop for the hood latch?

The hoods do come with the latches so they lock in the same way your stock hood would it is still recommended that you install hood pins. I am not totally sure but I would assume they are riveted.

The Latch is not riveted to the hood it is molded in from the back side of the skin

Well...it's looking like a no thus far. I don't think the amount of committed people we have will allow us to receive the prices on goods in my first original post. I will however email Culver at GTfabs and see what kind of prices we can get with 5 interested people. I don't think the discount will be very significant but it may be worth a try.

Thanks to all those who showed interest in this group buy, and a very special thanks to those who stepped up to the plate.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Cheers
