Looks like a good start. Is that was the "street" or "race" SMIM? Was wondering why you wouldn't go with their "drag" version for this size of a project?

I'm going to be doing testing back to back hopefully on this Race SMIM and the JM Drag SMIM. I want to test for both Hp/Tq but also spool up and low and mid range Hp and torque. This is primarily a street driven car so I don't want to sacrifice to much on the low and mid range to gain a few Hp on top.

GT42R & primarly a street car, aren't words you hear together that often wink

That would defently be some interesting data to comapre. What kind of displacement will you be running & what kind of goals have you set for this build up?

An interesting question... Has anyone ever tried a 1 to 4 intake 'header' design (like a reverse 4 to 1 exhaust header) over the manifold?

It always seemed to me that the traditional design of the intake manifold was rather 'klutzy', and relied more on forcing air into the chamber and holding it there rather than promoting 'flow'.

This well be a stroker motor, and the goals are 900Whp which at my current weight should push me into the 150+Mph mark.

Just out of curiosity, and because I'm too lazy to search, but WTF does a torque plate do?

Please remember I'm not running a GT42R I'm running a Comp Turbo capable of out flowing a GT42R hence the GT42R Killer thread name.

^^^ I was going to point that out earlier, but I thought I'd let the man himself do it! I have a link to Comp Turbos in the 'Commercial Advertisements', as my good friend is the Canadian distributor for them.

Ron, the car/set-up is BADASS!

You bolt it to the block during honing to simulate the torque / stresses you'll have when the engine is all together.

Correct, the only thing is a lot of steel torque plates over distort the cylinders to much, when boring.

They are also the same guys that rebuilt my FP3575 with a fully rebuildable dual ball-bearing CHRA w/ larger shaft, since FP doesn't recommend running over 35psi with the small shaft the FP3575 comes with.

Getting ready for the new motor combo!

I would say progress pics, but in actuality the car is getting more and more torn apart. Rewiring most of the interior.

I would guess that he is changing the roof skin to save weight and provide more clearence for wearing a helmet. Keep us updated with the pictures because that car is going to rock.

Just to update and clear somethings up. My turbo is going to be a "GT42R Killer" hopefully, I won't be running a actual Garrett turbo. I well be running a new Comp Turbo with Proprietary Tech, and hopefully make the same or more power with quicker spool.

Sorry for the long time between updates but a bad back has put me on the sideline. I'm going for a MRI this week so hopefully I can get to the bottom of this problem. Here are a few updated pics.

Just wanted to thank my newest sponsor Supertech Performance for hooking me up with a custom set of valves, springs, ret, seals etc... I'm very impressed as was my machinist with the quality of these components. I well be running there S/S intake, and there Inconel exhaust valves along with there Dual spring/Ret kit.

HKS you can tell it is an HKS cause it has the bolt holes to mount a heat shield the replica's don't from what I have seen.

Well sorry for the lengthy delay in updates but I got my camera working! Here is a shot of the motor in the car and wired up, and fuel system installed. Just going to fab up a new intercooler pipe 3 1/2" and a new down pipe, and exhaust 4".

Alot of the Red under the hood well be gone when the motor comes out for final cleaning and final assembly. This was just to test fit some of the new components etc.. The engine well carry the same paint scheme as the rest of the car!

thats a catch can. it vents the crankcase to the atmosphere instead of your intake tract as from factory.

Looks good. I would have personally left the roof black and spoiler on, but that hood looks actually really good with the car.

Also, the work in the engine bay is just gorgeous.

Thanks I'm glad you guys like it. Like I said the car is a long way from where I want it. In fact I might be making some more big changes before the car even hits the streets.

Well Jim at JM Fabrication is up to his old tricks and working on a new tubular Top Mount Manifold for my car. If it is anywhere near the quality of his Drag Intake Manifold it should be killer. Patiently waiting. smile

Have some new pics up this week!

The stock Moroso won't fit a stroked motor so you have to modify it alot to make it work so it is a Moroso that has been customized to work on a stroker.

I looked for a Moroso ages ago and they were never available. Guess I didn't look hard enough. I've never experienced oil starvation with the stock pan on the oval, autoslalom, or the track but it's always nice to have that extra protection. I'm assuming their 'trap-door' is a flapper valve to allow oil in but not out. tu

Yes plus also added capacity which allows better cooling, and less chance of starvation.

Thanks it really cleans up the interior as all 9 gauges fit within the stock gauge cluster opening.

Trying to get the car tuned but going to have to re-engineer the wastegates to get them to work! But on 10Psi this thing is already feel very strong, can't wait to see what 45Psi feels like, and oh yeah the nitrous system might come out of hybernation this year to. wink

The roof had probably a 100 spot welds and was braised on to at the rear, it was a major pain in the ass to say the least.

UPDATE

The car is and has been running and is tuned. The problem my Synapse wastegates just aren't working for me. In my opinion they are very poorly designed and the quality control is less then I expect not to mention the many different story's I get when I talk to various employees from Synapse. I just forked out the money for 2 new Tial 44mm's and should have the boost cranked shortly. But I well say even at a very low 13 Psi the car is a beast I can't wait to see what 45psi is going to feel like. Ron

I am sure this is a little skewed to come from a guy who has driven a 2GNT for years, and finally felt 15psi boost... but 45 would likely make my poo myself.

The car is putting down right around 500ish Whp on 13Psi which should be good for 125-130Mph traps.

I do know that yes, but I just really never knew what a 4 banger could do as a race motor.

Okay, I was going to come to Hamilton and slap you. And pillage your sister's bootey (Gyar, I'm a Pirate).

Nonetheless, all that aside, back to the thread.

Ron, what are your projected numbers at 45psi? I know you mentioned something about 900awhp earlier in the thread?

Hey Ron, what are you running for a transmission, rear diff, transfercase, driveshaft and axles? With a super setup like that I'm wondering what your driveline will be?

Thanks guys that clip was also only 6400Rpm so just getting everything sorted out. I'm hoping to make 900Whp which should get me north of the 150Mph barrier.

So to make a long story short took the car to get dyno'd today, and had some technical difficulties. Only made 2 full pulls as the car was loosing either ground or power and resetting the AEM etc... Also never even had a chance to bring the boost up off wastegate spring.mad Here is a quick vid of the car and hopefully I well get this electrical problem sorted and get he car tuned. I can say the power and timing this E85 is making is crazy! eek

So took the car to the track and had some issues with a slipping clutch. Car still ran 10.5@150Mph with only 28psi and no nitrous. So things look very promising once I get the clutch issue sorted out.

Well went to the track today and besides being cold as hell, had a great time and got to talk to and meet alot of good people. Between the cold, rain cancellation and constant oil downs still managed to set a new PB just two weeks after my last PB. Even though I haven't' had much time to change the tune since I brought on my secondary set of injectors the car is running real rich which is at-least safe. Looks like I also got the clutch problem sorted out finally and something less then a 1.9 60ft.:D Well on to the run. Car went a 9.8@147Mph. This was the same boost setting as my other 150Mph passes but like I said the car is running pig rich and that probably accounted for that few lost Mph. I'm extremely happy with the car and finally getting that elusive 9 second pass. Can't wait for next year. Here is a in car vid of the run enjoy.
