Was at the dealership on Friday to pick something up and they had one sitting there in the showroom right where my car was previousley sitting. Pretty sick car. I made a deal when I bought my car. The deal was that I get to take the EVO out for a spin when they got them. They better live up to their end of the deal cause I am holding them too it.

It was Brampton Mitsu. They got 2 of them. I can't imagine Peterborough will be getting one any time soon.

So then my chances of the St. Catharines dealership having one any time soon is slim haha.

They have about 30 of them at the dealership in my current town. Actually, they've had the Evo here for a few years. I almost forgot how rare it is to see some good Japanese cars in Canada. I guess that I'm just a little spoiled with that over here...

Australia is definitely the best country for cars. You get the best of Japan and Europe, many of the North American cars, and Holdens! smile

I can't wait to see a few of the new Evos in the snow. That'll be a great test. I know the sideways style is fun in them, but the great Canadian winter should prove the most fun of all.

Oh yeah, I just checked the Pontics site and the new G8 is a terrible rendition of the Holden Commadore. Pontiac should be shot over that.

Just saw 2 of them at Markham Mitsubishi, and they are sold already. The black one looks sweet. Mike at the parts counter told me they're only getting something like 700 in Canada.

They sell a lot of cars there. They are one of the top Mitsu dealerships in Canada I do believe. Apparently they already have 15 EVOs sold there.

Ghislain when is this unveiling in Peterborough? I am surprised they are getting one so soon. Depending on when it is I may be down there so I may pop in to say Hi.

All in all they are a pretty sweet car but I would really need to drive one to see if it can live up to all the hype. At first I was wondering if I might have regretted buying the Eclipse instead of waiting for an EVO but so far I am happy with my decision.

Interesting. I've been there numerous times and everytime im there, their showroom is usually empty. There's more people waiting in the service area compared to people viewing the showroom.

Plus, i guessed they weren't doing well since it seems like they got a crappy place (formally a Nissan Dealership) and everyone else (Nissan, Honda, etc) have a block or so of space at the Auto centre.

That sucks. I definately won't be able to make that one.

Joe. I thought the same thing too but apparently you can't judge a book by it's cover. It does make you wonder why they wouldn't move to a larger location or update the current one. They are part of the Brampton Auto Mall which accounts for 7 dealerships in that area so I am sure they have the backing to do it. All of there other dealerships are pretty descent looking.

There's two at the dealer here in St. John's! $1200/month taxes in for 4 years... no thanks! I'll stick with my Eclipse... which will destroy a stock Evo when it's done. laugh

Well, in theory I could afford one then. Insurance and price of living might come into play though.

I will stick with my talon =]

I can think of much better vehicles for that price. Maybe when they bring out the ralliart I might be interested. Until then they are fun to look at, but sh!t for $51,000 I could get a real nice truck, bmw or lexus, mazda cx-7. Something with a little class anyways.

I mean do you think the people buying them know anything about EVO's or just saw it in magazines for the last two years?

lol this is funny. For years everyone complains that we don't have evo's in Canada and two weeks after it comes out everyone says they would never buy one.

I guess it will get more popular once it depretiates a bit.

It's more the price point of USA vs. CAN.
The EVO GSR is 32, the EVO MR is 38.
Considering we're $1 CAN = $0.99 USD...

And there's a huge difference between "Ya, ok, $38 is pricey, but I can do that for a brand spanking new EVO, it'll make me budget a bit", and "Holy crow, $51. That's out of my price range by a long shot".

Exactly. Until Canada's Automaker realize that our CAN is at par with US and change their pricing according to that, then ill buy one. Other than that, id rather have a house to store the DSM or the EVO perhaps rotate .

At the Toronto auto show the nicest car I though new was like a mazda 3 sedan. Considering the price tag and how comfortable it was to sit in. Though power wise it was only like 150. But it did come with a 6speed. Fully loaded the model was priced at 23,000km. To my concern not bad looking at all.

How ever the Lancer was probably what I would buy(yes the slow one no evo for me. Speed is why I got my talon even thought its not that fast). Same price range as the mazda. Just don't know if Lancer has a leather option. Cause I got shocked 3 times getting in and out. Very annoying my SX did that too hated it. Of course if you are looking at about 30-50g's for a new car probably won't look at the same cars as me.

The whole reason the EVO/WRX got going was that they were a $15k econobox that turned into a supercar competitor for around $25k. So they bring it to North America and suddenly charge almost double that? Err, no.

Not when I can buy a used RS4 for just a bit more.

ok, insurance prices coming up.

i'll do a rate for an 21 yr old and a 25+ yr old both in peel region and toronto, hang on...

OK, 2008 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION 'MR' EDITION

as a 21 yr old with a clean record: (includes Driver Training and Good Student Discounts)

in Mississauga/Brampton: $331.34/mth
in Toronto/Etobicoke: $337.60/mth
(96 TALON BY COMPARISON: $204.17, same coverages)

as a 25+ yr old with a clean record:

in Mississauga/Brampton: $256.27/mth
in Toronto/Etobicoke: $261.58/mth
(96 TALON BY COMPARISON: $176.34, same coverages)

No doubt about it, this is one EXPENSIVE car to insure. It's categorized as an all out sports car, not even a family sedan.

I pay $280, full coverage for 3 cars. Accord, Maxima, and the Talon smile

Grant, I still find those prices reasonable for the Evo X.

Heh. That's a frickin' laugh. It's not like they're made out of carbon fibre or anything...

If RBC quoted me $100/mo for a Ferrari Scaglietti, I wonder how much the EVO quote would be? wink

For supercars don't they have a rediculous deductible, though?
That would keep the rate low...
Ask them how much the Evo is with say a $4,000 deductible wink It's probably on par otherwise...

they have some weird restrictions on super cars and ya, deductibles are usually a standard 2-5% which means if the car is worth 200k, the ded. would be 4-10,000.

88/mo full coverage on my 94, under 25, clean record.

66/mo for my winter beater, PLPD. laugh

That's down from 167/mo as of beginning of Feb. See what happens when you switch companies?

Who did you switch to?

My record isn't squeky clean. But most of my offense's are from my g2. Which apparently are not on my record now. But I have a no insurance charge from a couple years ago.

Rob/Grant: When I asked, she said everything would be the same as I was paying now... Shocked the Hell out of me. Now I just need to come up with the cash to buy the car! wink I'm sure their story would change if I went to them SERIOUS about it.

hey Troy, don't mean to doubt you at all, but considering I worked at RBC Insurance at Yonge/Bloor for over a year before coming here to State Farm, I'm well aware of their rules/regulations.

The advisor you were speaking to probably did not check the deductibles when giving you the quote as they are generated automatically for those types of vehicles and you wouldn't see that until the end of the quote.

again, not doubting you...just sayin' laugh

sorry to turn this into an insurance thread - maybe we should have an insurance forum, mods?

Forgot to add that in, Grant. I believe you, and I'm used to people doing a half-assed job. That's what I meant when I said the story would change if I tried to go through with it.

It's a funny thing, Randy. When you get old and stay accident-free, collision becomes cheaper than PLPD or Comp!

Saw the GTR at the Auto Show yesterday(As I am sure many other people have already). Now that is a sick car. Suddenly the EVO looks like a grocery getter lol. Mind you the EVO is much less expensive. I was talking to the guy from Nissan there and he said that the GTR will be in show rooms late June-early July. He said there will only be one model available this year and it will be 85K. To be honest, that seems more than reasonable for that car. I am sure it will be the same deal as the Shelby GT500s. They will list at a reasonable price but they will be impossible to get so dealerships will use premiums to double the price of the car so you can have it earlier.

Finally got around to visiting the dealership to see the new IX.

Out front was bright, shiny new charcoal grey one, and I have to say......it was impressive to look at.

Inside they had an identical one that I took the time to sit in and poke around.

Hmmm.

After sitting in it, I realized that the seating and position is.....dare I say....no different than my 2G. I was hoping for telescoping wheel in addition to just tilt.

It's most certainly a nice car, but would I plunk down $40K for it?
I know way back when I said I would, no questions asked.....but after owning an Audi for the past 2 months, my old fat ass has gotten spoiled. If I am going to retire the 2G and replace it with something, I want a significant improvement, not just in performance, but in comfort.
The interior is woefully unimpressive, the seats look lame with the faux carbon fibre look, the trunk is very small, and I am still not sure about this new 4B11.
The absence of little niceties like bluetooth, steering wheel mounted audio, and the lack of the bad assery of the DSG transmission, make me say "meh" . I know the MR has the SST, but the fact that Mitsubishi is having a lot of birthing pains with this tech makes me think thrice.

An Evo is all about raw performance, and so I reluctantly concede that after all is said and done, -I might just be too old for a car like this.
I saw a shiny black Evo IX parked yesterday, and that one excited me more.....(4G63, or nuthin'!)

(sigh)

When I first had my Eclipse about 5 years ago & was 23, I was paying something like $330-375 a month for full coverage. Finally took a nice drop once I hit 25. Last year paid $175 for full coverage but they found out I had 2 minor speeding tickets. Before they knew this it was $145 I believe.

email me for a quote, you might be surprised. we have great rates for bikes, even as a stand-alone policy (meaning you don't have to bring your car to us as well).

Check around Ruben. I was insured through my father (years back) with a reputable place, government rate, and suddenly my rate went from $1400/yr to $2600/yr. They said it was a change in the car's classification. I checked, and it was changed to a higher risk category (loved it when the Talon TSi was the same as a Civic smile ). 7 months into it I decided to check around, and found another broker willing to give me a $1600/yr rate!

The company I was with refused to refund me for the rest of the year after I changed, stating they'd done me a favour by not charging me $3200/yr (I was so lucky to get a discount, I guess). I threatened court, and they eventually refunded me the difference.

You can't always go by what they tell you...
