Guy at work always goes away on vacation March 1st.
He figures you can live through the snow til Christmas, and then Christmas is pretty. By mid Jan, everyone's lights are down, and February, you get hammered with .... well, what we're getting now.

So, as things just start to thaw Mar 1, but you're still in for another month or two of crappy weather, he heads south and gets a week or two of sun. Sets him up for dealing with spring showers. smile

But look on the bright side.
You're not foolish enough to try month long kitchen renos right now, moving yourself into your upper floor and living out of a spare bedroom as a make-shift kitchen.
Heh.
What kind of fool would do THAT?

The moment a turbo spools, all your dreams are made possible.

I hear you Ryan. Im dying to put the talon on the road. But I don't want to throw it on the road when there is still snow and salt out. Espicially when I still have a neon to drive....I should really get the neon fixed this weekend.

Last winter was so much better. Probably going to put the talon on the road mid march now.

Damn, that's awful.

But hey, it's a cold grey day here in Dallas today.
The wind is blowing, the rain is intermittant, and it's hovering at 5c.

This weekend it'll be even worse: Sunny, clear and in the mid to low 20's.

Terrible.

I want an RS4.

It's snowing here in Ottawa, too. Don't you just love how people forget how to drive in this weather? You'd think that most people who have been through at least one winter here would recall how to act/react in snowy conditions. Nooo, either they drive slower than my legally blind grandmother or think they're invincible until they roll their SUVs.
freak

Sure, winter is cold but you can dress up for it. Most people just can't tolerate how depressing it is.

Well it looks like it snowed earlier here. I drove one winter with summers. I didn't have any more issues with traction as snow tires. Mind you thats the only winter I did it. I'd like to stick with less powered cars for the winter now just so the loud pedal is some what useful.

I can't wait for the temperature to rise noticeably so that I can work on the Talon without freezing to death or catching pneumonia. It hibernates during the winter.

I hear that! me and the old man just finished redoing the garage with huge amounts of storage and heating it. To bad as soon as we finished it I moved out here and left the cars at home, sitting outside shuffle...

So I have a heated garage for when I get back in spring for +30 weather.... pimp

Well, pulled the covers of her today, fired it up! Took a bit of cranking to get the fuel prime as I have a leaky sending unit (replacing) but she weathered the winter VERY well. No musty smell in the cabin, no frame rust or moisture on it due to the tarp I put under it, everything looks great.

Since it's going to be so BEAUTIFUL tomorrow in Sudbury, I'm going to start the tear down and wire tuck.

FINALLY SPRING'S HERE!!!

I'm just throwing the coveralls on right now, gonna go fix a couple wiring issues and see if I can get this starter problem sorted out.

It'd be nice to actually DRIVE the car but we can only ask for so much!

LOL, isn't that the truth.

Started tearing into mine today. I did a wire tuck for the wires that run across the IM, they are now hidden in the middle of it, and I've turned my injectors so the wires don't show.

Got rid of that damned red wire loom too!

Pulled the front off and removed the FMIC (Jay, it's ready for you) as well as removed the Fuel Sending unit to get the Walbro 190 I'm selling out.

Now my engine bay looks like it puked, all the wires all over the place.

Next task next weekend: Relocate the fuse box to where the SMIC used to be. demon

It's good to be back.

That's a pretty dusty, wet, dirty spot for the fuse box, isn't it? Or is this car a Sunday driver? Definitely gets it out of the way.

I redid all my grounds today on the new rig. Previous owner had the battery relocated to the trunk and there were a few pretty sketchy grounds but they're good now.

Figured out my coolant leak is coming from where the main water line connects to the water pump. No big deal since I have to take the manifold and turbo off anyway and I was already planning on flushing all the fluids.

The starter problem, on the other hand, isn't looking so good. Had a look at the teeth on the flywheel and they're chewed up pretty good from repeated use of a starter that wasn't engaging properly. So, hopefully I can just replace the starter and it will be ok 'cause I really don't want to have to change the flywheel on my new car.

See, I'm going to put the fusebox wires side up, and put the shrouds there, so it should keep it decently dry. Probably fill the wiring area with some sort of non-conductive goop.

Good to know you got a few things fixed today. Hopefully the starter just has to be replaced and you don't have to do the flywheel.

So I've decided, that though it is over.. I too am sick of winter. I'm stuck with my car inside of a building and cant get her out frown ... it's a long building with one person who can access it, and there are about 10 other cars parked between mine and the entrance. I can't drive over them, or under them, so I have to wait frown

If we didnt have winter this wouldn't have happened frown

Finally got mine running today. Back to my old 14b and old 2.0 but it sure beats the hell out of the Chev 1500. Now I just gotta spend a couple hours detailing it inside and out. The speed limit comes up a lot faster than I'm used to again.

rotflmao I found that out last time I drove mine. But I have been driving a Neon for the last year. After I have a temp I will be cleaning mine inside. Then I will start the annoying task of tackling the paint. =[

I'd say so for now Ryan, I'm going to call monday to find out for sure.. but I'll let you know. Going to give some of the other people a chance to get their sh!t out before I annoy the guy who is storing my beast.

Then she's off for paint! I really hope to have it done before the spring cruise.

So... any of your cities still have snow kickin' around?

Ottawa is more or less clear on the streets/sidewalks downtown, but we still have ~two feet of snow in various places in the region. The roads are more or less dry but they have yet to clean the salt/sand/rocks... Man, hurry up so I can stir the beast awake!

We're clear in Belleville, minus the odd pile here and there. I live across the road from a beach (sandbanks provincial park), and I have discovered that at least half of the beach has made its way to my front lawn.

Well, a little update on mine. I'll get some pics today.

90% completed the wire tuck, relocated the fusebox and hid all the IM wires in the IM.

Pull power steering (tossed a coin for this one).

Installed the new Kinetic FMIC
Installed the BC 272's
Installed the 3" exhaust
Relocated the battery down lower on the crossmember.

It's going to be pretty nice today, so we're back at 'er again!

Pics in a bit.

I like the wire tuck idea, but that fuse box location makes me nervous just looking at it. I hope you don't ever drive that thing in the rain!

I am going to have the splash shields up and it's going to be covered. If need be, I'll fab something up to prevent it from getting even more wet.

It fits better, bolt holes line up with ones on the frame. It's a Kinetic FMIC, and it looks like that's the way it is supposed to fit. The pipe coming in on the PS side has an angle facing upwards towards the throttle body.

Lol, you beat me to it, I knew something looked odd. I never seen a Kinetic FMIC mounted upside down.

Ryan I guess it doesn't matter right, as long as it fits smile
From the picture it looks like you chopped the 16g j-pipe. Is that to accomodate the new angle of the FMIC inlet pipe ?

Is the fuse box gonna stay upside down?

Other than that looking great and the hood is blinging!

Yeah Reza, the fuse box is going to stay upside down. I'm going to Zip-tie the box cover on it.

I had to cut the J-Pipe to fit my last FMIC setup. I still have the piece I cut, I am just going to have it welded back on.

Yeah, the FMIC fits better that way, less cutting of the crash beam and there are 2 bolt holes on either side of the rad support that the FMIC bolt holes line up perfectly with. I just have to make a bracket to support it from the top.

The FMIC has to be welded a bit as well, the last guy had damn near snapped one of the brackets off, it's holding on by a thread. I'll get that fixed too.

It's 1:45PM on Monday. 35h 15min left before my week off.

This is what I'm going for.

I believe some people have relocated the fuse box to inside the cabin, either in or behind the glove box. That might be a better choice if you feel like redoing all that work (doubt it! :))

It does look good though, I look forward to seeing what it looks like after your week off!

I'm getting anxious to get it running. I have a few things to be welded, waiting on some parts from Ziggy and it should be ready to fire up by next Thursday.

I am also going to run new brake lines. Mine look like hell.

Ok, so I take my holiday's right. End of April, beginning of May. You'd think it was going to be warm out right? NO! It's going to snow this week, and rain all weekend. How the hell am I supposed to work on the car?

DAMNIT!

My car is coming along well! I'm not able to bring it to paint for a little while though frown I dont have enough cash yet. After my SQ I'll be able to.

The wing has been removed, and holes are sealed as best I could using plastic bags and duct tape. Guess they're getting tested today, it's raining here.

All that's really left is paint, wing and skirts.. all of that is being done by body guy.

Yeah, I was supposed to have the car ready for Monday, don't think it's going to happen. It's supposed to rain here Fri-Sun. I'll have it ready for the cruise.

It's insured and I don't have much left to do.

Here's a few more pics of the build.

It's not going to be ready for Monday, that's for sure. One of my tires have to be replaced. bitch

Anyway, it's starting to look more and more like a car. Still needs to be cleaned, but I'll get'r done.

Looking good Ryan,

Have you considered getting a non-cruise throttle cable?.
A JmFabrications heatsheild for the exhaust mani would look good too.

Goodluck man,

Aaron

Hey Aaron;

I've considered it, but I like my cruise too much. Getting rid of Power Steering was a big step for me. wink

I've got the stock heatsheild I'm going to paint black.

I've Never had the pleasure of driving a talon with power steering.

I prefer not having it, my car definatly isn't into the road course anyways. And I definatly have hand over hand mastered for my G liscence test.

Keep us updated buddy.

Aaron

Using the power rack without the pump running is bad for the rack, and your steering wheel will wear out faster too.

Plus what Rob says. I would rather fix a leaky line now then a power steering rack in a bit. Don't want to do the manual steering rack thing. Not on a DD. Maybe track car.

I dropped mine on all fours last night and turned the wheel, it's not bad actually.

She's almost ready to go. I have to finish the interior wiring yet.

Well, it's alive! Took her for a rip around the block, needs to be tuned/timed and some small bugs worked out. Little dripping from the oil return, nothing some RTV can't fix.

Just have to finish up a few loose ends and she's good to go!

The good old oil return drip! Ah, good times. I replaced that line with braided stainless and it works mint now. Glad to hear it's coming along, Ryan!

Yeah yeah, how's your car doing there Rob? wink

I did replace mine with a stainless line, it's just the fitting that bolts to the oil pan, I reused an old gasket, so I'll just clean it up and RTV the crap out of it. Worked the last time. wink

It's funny, because that's the worst oil leak to fix. Crappy design. RTV can't fix it alone, you need to be an expert in the field.

Mine drips once every 274 hours, while the car sits in the drive. wink

Get a steel adapter, remove the oil pan, clean it up and weld it in place.
Or at least do a proper (patient) RTV job on it, with the oil pan off and thoroughly cleaned.

Alternatively, switching to studs could help a lot.

Fixing it on the car is sort of a pipe dream. Bad pun. No cookie.

Or forget the RTV. A clean gasket with two smooth surfaces and it won't leak. Don't forget the little crush washers under the bolts, as oil comes right up the threads to the bolts head. Crush washers are the only thing that'll prevent it from leaking, unless you stripped one of the nuts inside the oil pan.

Well, I figured I'd bring this back for two double oh nine. I'm not AS sick of winter this year since my summer car has been my winter car and keeping it sideways has been A LOT of fun. Just got 10cm of snow last night, I'm heading to Yorkdale in the AWD. Should be fun.

I still hate winter.

I too hate winter. Had a little bit of excitement a week ago when all the snow was gone... so much for that idea.

Guess I better get used to it though, Cold Lake winters suck even more.

Does this thread bring a little tear to your eye Ryan? That was definitely a clean bay.

I'm sure the new one will look just as nice though buddy.

Me and the whole company are crossing our fingers for an early spring to get a jump start on the season. I've come to despise winter over the last couple years.

Come onnnn June!

You know guys, I was at the Yorkdale meet today and Paul P. and I got talking, matter of fact, everyone there got talking, about my old 1G.

I do miss it. Hindsight is 20/20 and I've learned from my mistakes. $1000 and that car was back on the road, but at the time I hated it so much as I never got any pleasure out of it considering the time and money that went into it.

The 2G will not suffer the same fate. On the way home today, I stopped in Oro-Medonte at this guy's place (Soon to be a member) who has 4 Talons and a whole shed of parts, he's been into them for years just never registered on the board. He's got a 95 AWD Automatic as a daily, but soon will be taking it apart and using components to go into his 96 5 speed he's got. We've already talked about me getting the shell after he's done taking what he needs. I plan on keeping my 2G around for many years.

Oh, and as for the clean engine bay, don't worry about that. I've already got plans of all the stuff I want to get rid of/relocate in my engine bay to make it look shiny good. wink

The reality is that they don't know anything.

They can't even predict tomorrow, what makes you think they can predict the next few months?

Bah, in Sudbury we've got 3 seasons.

1: Cold
2: Bad Roads
3: Construction fixing Bad Roads.

Repeat.

Somewhere in there it's kinda nice out. smirk

Ok ok ok ok... this is a little rediculous.

3 days ago (read: Thursday) Sudbury was supposed to get 7 degrees and sun on Saturday.

Wake up this morning and it's snowing with a windchill of minus 10 and a temperature of -2.

Giving The Weather Network the benefit of the doubt, they're 5 degrees off.

THAT'S NOT EVEN IN THE BALLPARK!

I just picked up my Eclipse front snout yesterday, and I was hoping to throw it on.

Screw that I guess.

Meh, it needs some prep work anyway.

Well, it was a DSM kinda day.

Myself and a local guy (not on this board yet) picked up a 95 ESI for a parts car. He's got a 95 ESI with a destoryed interior, so we started swapping it over.

Kinda nice out today... and guess what? SNOW in the forecast for the next THREE days!!!

according to weather network, average temperature should be around 10C now...but no...tomorrow morning, it's going to feel like -7C...with rain/snow mix.

At this point, I just want april over and done with.

Yeah, our roads are so bad, they can only afford to make them last, not make them pretty.
