I am actually looking to pose for one.

You guys are fast, Anyways yes i am looking for some info.

Looking for a new carrer, but for what i know this one might be out of the question.

I havent see any brown fire-fighters, very few black guys and i think the chances for this Mexican would be very limited.

what you guys think.

Hey man, I wouldn't stop anyone who actually wants to run into fires and save lives from doing what they want to do, and I doubt anyone else would. If that's what you see yourself doing and being happy, go for it!

Manny, screw the racial and cultural crap. Go be a firefighter. Whether you eat french fries or taco's, they don't care.

Hell, walk into a police station, they'll beg you to start working as they are looking for minorities!

In all seriously my brother in law has tried several times to qualify but he hasn't.

The physical tests are pretty serious, he always passed the mental ones (thankfully).

I know you have to go to school now to be a cop; not sure if it's the same with firefighters.

Along with what Ryan said, I actually think if anything they would be MORE willing to hire someone with a different ethnic background.

To put it plainly...

If you've got tits or your skin isn't white, you're in pretty much any form of emergency services.

Minorities will get jobs even if they're less qualified. bird

Good luck getting in full time anywhere close to you though, at least around here the firehalls are backed up and you pretty much have to wait for someone to retire to get in.

Unless of course you want to try out on the volunteer (they do get paid, just less, no benefits and you're on call) end of things, then there are usually spots but I doubt you could make a living like that.

Manuel, if you really want to be a firefighter go for it. Ryan keep up the motivation for Manuel.

Have you ever thought about being a Border Services Officer, if you know spanish or any other language it will be a benefit.

Join the military, you get paid and they train you. Do your min service requirement then you can get a job on the outside. I'm sure getting your citizenship would be no big hassle, I'm not sure if you NEED it for the military but I am 100% sure they will help you with the process. My boss is from Ecuador, he speaks 5 languages fluently, they give him taskings all over the world (like free vacations) to translate for diplomats, military higher ups etc.

I think, I would keep my self away from the military, Knowing my self i would end up enrolling and shipped out somewhere, And Jen wouldnt be too happy.

Ghislain was telling me this before.

With her experience Jen could defenately be able to get herself a job anywhere.

All in all any Police/Fire Fighting/Military or any Goverment agency would be excellent for you to get in since you are young, in a hell of a good shape and highly motivated. Do not set yourself any boundry and go for what you feel like.

Apply everywhere and go for the kill.

Ghislain.

Hey Manuel,

I'll be heading down to texas for my firefighting training. I could do it here in Humber College but its about 10 months and you only get your level 1 training.

Down in texas, you finish your training in 3 months and finish with level 1 and 2 training.

Here's the exact one im taking:

http://www.teex.com/teex.cfm?pageid=ESTIprog&area=ESTI&templateid=1420

Most of the people i know have taken/planning to take the Texas training. I only know of one that has taken the Humber college one.

The training isnt hard. Its the applying that takes forever and a money pit. Currently, peel region has about a 2 year wait and Toronto has about 5 years wait.

I almost forgot what 2nd and reverse gear feels like.

Nobody has to go to school to be a cop unless you are referring to the Police Academy in Aylmer (which every Ontario police officer has to attend upon conditional hire) or the RCMP's Depot in Saskatchewan (same idea as Ontario).

As far as education goes, all you need to be a cop is a grade 12 diploma or its equivalent.

Go for it Manuel. Race doesen't matter anymore, unless you get stuck with some old-schoolers, but personally I think race is just something to joke around about, and have fun with.
Good Luck
Brian
