In theory I agree....but no-one is FIGHTING..they are signing a silly petition...that is NOT fighting. If someone wants to FIGHT this.....have your car impounded and your license suspended, then go to court and argue that this is unconstitutional. THAT would be fighting.
But then, I forget, we are Canadians. Never mind, let's all just sign a silly petition which will give the politicians a good laugh just before they toss it in the trash..

www.thestar.com/kenzie/2008/05/I-am-a-street-ra.html If the link doesn't work sorry I'm not so good at figuring it out. But you can find it by searching for Jim Kenzie blog on "google" Anyway near the bottom of the blog Kenzie states that this law is being challenged under the Canadian charter. Sorry to be skeptical but that only means that Harper has to make an ammendment. This is basically an "anti stunting" law and 50k over is only a part of it, you can lose your car for a week by passing a car, they call it multiple lane changes above the posted limit or something close to that. All you need to do is be driving 20k over to get that one . Car and licence gone for a week $2000 minimum and a day in court. Sign the petition but write letters in support of guys like Kenzie because people like him can speak louder than we can individually. Write "polite"letters to your MPP and what ever else people on sites like this come up with. We need to make a lot of noise about this or the next law will be even worse when they figure out that this one isn't working.

So do nothing Ziggy, but don't encourage others to do nothing.

I think I signed it before. And not to be a wet blanket, but I learned long ago that there really is nothing you can do. The politicians decide for themselves what will make them look better, and that's what they push for.
These laws seem like crap, and to us they are. But I remember talking to a cop that pulled me over once that said, "You actually CHANGED lanes at that speed, and then you BRAKED? That's DANGEROUS!" To which I replied, "If it is, then you shouldn't be on the freakin' road!" He went on to tell me that they view the average driver as being iffy to pull off such manouvers without endangering everyone around them.
Like I said, I'm just waiting on self-driven cars now.
