So I've had various leaks on my eagle talon as of late. I just picked up a mitsubishi oem 4 layer exhaust manifold gasket in hopes of tracking down the source of carbon all over the front of my motor. The turbocharger's clamp which holds the exhaust housing to the CHRA was also leaking a bit.

My question is this, would using a bit of permatex red gasket maker on the new gaskets as well as between the exhaust housing and the CHRA of the turbocharger be a good idea? Does it do it's job in super high heat applications (ie, on a turbocharged car?) I've always just used bare gaskets but this car loves to leak before the turbo so....

Hello Mike.

Red stuff might help a bit. Having said check the "trueness" of the mating surfaces. Maybe something is bent outta shape.

Use the Permatex Ultra Copper
[Linked Image]

I would use it everywhere except on the 4-layer head to manifold gasket. There just make sure the flange on the manifold is true and that you torque it down properly.

I've heard that stuff works great for exhaust temps.
But I tried ultra copper where the turbo bolts to the manifold and on my 02 housing. It held for a few days before they both started leaking. My surfaces where clean, I don't know how flat it was.

I had to go with OEM gaskets.

I mean, put a bead on both sides of the gaskets.
