Just seeing if there is an interest in a cf sunroof replacement panel for 1g and 2g STOCK sunroof holes.

I am in talks with a CF supplier about producing these items.

They would be made of either solid carbon fiber sheets or carbon fiber sheets backed with fiberglass like cf hoods are.

The panel would come with a replacement/modified seal in order for it to be used during the rain as well as maintain a better than factory seal.

I am also in talks with another company to make high quality carrying cases that the panel can be stored in while not in use.

Just seeing if this is going to worth my time and such.

There lots of interest in a part like this, but I can think of 2 or 3 other times people have talked about making one and it never seems to come together.

So my opinion is that unless you post a picture of a finished part installed in a DSM, you'll have a hard time getting people to give up any money for it.

Also, I doubt most DSMers would pay for a high-quality storage bag. smile

I'm assuming this is for the drag strip or track days?

This can be used for Daily driving also as it will be made with a latch for secure fastening.

I plan on producing one for myself regardless. I will post pictures installed on my 2g. I will then decide to mass produce them if there is enough interest shown on DSMTUNERS as well as here.

As for the High quality storage bag - that is probably going to be optional lol.

This product will be marketed for off road use only similar to that of a CF hood, but it will be constructed to withstand daily driving use.

I MAY be interested, but that is all after seeing the quality, fitment, and finish of the part for a 1g.

The first one that will be made is for my 2G, 1g will be coming once I sell a few 2g ones to make it worth my investment to make a 1st gen one. I'll let everyone know how things go.

So what you are saying is this part would reaplace the glass?

I would be interested, if somehow one can be make just to cover the shut also in carbon. I would like to get rid off the hole thing altogheter before I shove a cage in there.

Can you pm me with a sketch or something so I can see how its going to look?

Yes this will replace the whole electric sunroof mechanism including the glass. This will allow for weight savings as well as looking a lot better.

My initial reason for wanting to make this is b/c I am the type of person that has the sunroof fully opened or fully closed - never opened half way. I also hate how the 2g sunroof is usually defective in our cars after many years of use. Our cars are overweight IMHO so anything that will help is a bonus. I have a c/f hood and will be getting a c/f hatch soon so this will compliment them.

Essentially this will serve the function of an after market sunroof that is removable.

Ill see if I can draw something up on the computer for you manuel.

The product is still in its infancy really with just a few sketches done by my hand.

I am talking to a company that has a water jet service for precise cutting.

Will keep you all updated.

I have a friend that has a shop and a supplier for c/f hatches, maybe ill start a group buy and help some of you out. I wouldn't mind doing it so long as when I announce it I get payment w/in a reasonable time. I'll be ordering my hatch mid spring early summer.
The sunroof prototype should be done with in the next month or so.

Ok guys getting ready to order my supplies as the design is now complete. I was wondering what would be better to use and more practical to use also: Pure carbon fiber sheet or a fiberglass base with a pure carbon fiber veneer stuck on top.

Full carbon, even if it is only thick enough to support the pressure.....
