Stumbled across them on kijiji, some store has em on sale 99 each. Ratings are 94H or 94V. Anyone know about them. I dont understand ratings. Researched tire rack long time today but never found these. If not leaning twards Kuhmo. But no local shops seem to have them.
EDIT : oh and by the way I PMed Fai today and waiting for him to respond. Hes quite far away from me though. Anyone have a number? Maxim wheels site doesnt like to load for me...

I was looking at the same tires on kijiji 109 a pop installed for 225/40/R18. If this brand is reliable i'll go for them.

Yeah I have no clue what to do right now. My dad thinks replacing all 4 is stupid. He says to just go out and buy one to replace the one with the damaged sidewall. I dont want to do this since its AWD, and I m not shure if Im just being over protective.

Search Google, they seem to be cheap crap just like Wanli, which I know for sure have some problems.
I wouldn't risk my tire/car/life on them.

Hmm what about Kuhmos then? Seem to be a popular choice? I noticed Falkens can be resonably priced as well.

www.1010tires.com has a Sumo tire deal right now: buy 3 get the 4th free. I bought my wheels and tires from them, no problems. They also sell Falkens.

Thanks for that I believe they are canadian? I couldnt remember a canadian site.
Now I got to wondering...
The reason I believed I need 4 tires is because the front undamaged tire had bad wear. Now the rears I believe are still pretty good. Im guessing 75% Would it be stressfull on the drivetrain to replace just front 2? It seems such a waste if I cant sell my continentals, when the rears are in such good shape. They re a nice looking tire too.

How are the sumos? Never heard of them. I might buy the 18's 225/40/r18 from them for that deal. Comes out to 118 a tire shipping included. Anyone have experience with Sumo?

Sumo or Sumitomo? I remember when people felt about them, Kumho and Nitto the way people talk about the Wanli and Nankang tires now. I'd buy them, but not thinking about pure performance. It's getting the job done on a tight budget, especially if you're just commuting.

I ran Dean Quasars on my Talon for years (no money) and I even autoXed with them. Never felt in danger of my life, but also knew I couldn't corner as well with them as my previous BF/G VR4's.

If you're looking at those numbers 94H is the load rating (94, which is actually pretty high) combined with the speed rating (H). So in your comparison, I'd get the V-rated tires if you could.

Mike, I'd say go with the Falkens or Kuhmos.

I'd also replace all four because of the AWD. I think I've read that it only takes a small amount of variance between treads to throw off the AWD. I think that the different tread patterns will also play a role in potential problems.

Maybe I'm just too overcautious....
But it's better to be safe than sorry right?

Put the old tires on Kijiji, someone will pick them up for track use.

From the research that i had done when i was in a simnilar situation you should replace in 4 but you can replace in 2 as long as you use the same tire dimensions. Be careful though because some tire comapanies may have a larger variuance formthe dimension stated so talk to a knowledgeable tire guy or just buy a set of used cont. and you wont have to worry

I have a friend that runs NS2, He had them on last season. Plus this season. He blew the one of the rears on his 180 on the 401. It might be different if you are not roasting your tires every chance you get.

I might get a set of NS2, Don't touch wanli though. The saving is not worth those crappy tires.

I will probably save up longer and get a little better tire though.

I have the NS2 225/40R17 if i remember right, on my gsx, going on the second summer with them after some sprited driving from all last summer. They work very well and I still have 3/4" tread life left, good at high speeds, pretty good cornering for a 40series. I bought mine new from Fai Lee for under $400. I went for a 40series because of the bumps and backroads around here, big difference compared to the 35 or 30series on bumps, which drove me crazy cause the wipers would turn on.

I like the Falken 452 aswell, they had a better/bigger rim protector but they only lasted one summer and they were showing the wear bars, maybe I've setted down a bit behind the wheel. The Falken 912's look like a pretty good choice.

It really depends what you want the tire for. Do you you autoX, or track the car?

I also have the Falken 912's. Awesome tires.

Fai Lee sells them for $230/pair, tax in (17" tire size).

I asked him about them over the phone. I may step up and just get the pirelli pzero nero M&S seemed like a better deal (100 dollar rebate) > comes to just about 600 (if I remember correctly) Fai says they are better for the money than the same price range hankooks, and falken 912s. He thinks they ll last longer and Ive read about them, great reviews! But yeah between the 912s and pzeros Im not completely decided yet if the falkens are cheaper.

I ll give another testimonial for Fai, definately knows his stuff, very helpfull, and seems to have better prices than many shops in my area!

Hey Mike.
I would stay stay the fack away from nankang and any other cheap brand out there . And I tell you this from real experience , those tires will give you a good scare, their compound wasn't meant to push them a 50% of what our cars can handle.

I will go for azenis RT's or something from falken, yokohama paradas are good for daily driving and can take the abuse too.

Hey Mike,

I also have to co-sign the Falken 912s. I'm currently running them (18s.) Love em. When it comes to tires you don't have to overspend, but nothing good comes out of going cheap!

Geeze all these falken testimonials are making the decision between falkens and pirellis harder. How are everyones falkens holding up tire wear wise?

I have Falken 452's and I have no complaints (nice and predictable, awesome in the rain, don't squeel and don't mind some heat). I autox on them and even used them as warm up tires at shannonville.

I would stay the heck away from the nankang and the like if you are ever going to touch a track.

I'm on my second set of Falken Azenis and love them. I Auto-X a handful of times each season plus some aggressive driving. They typically hold up for at least 2 summers and am pushing a third.
Good in the wet and phenominal in the dry.

A lot of people consider Falken to be 'cheap crap'. It all depends on who you ask. wink They're actually made by Ohtsu in Japan, and they know how to make tires. Their 900 series are the ones to go with, though, or possibly the 452 Brad mentioned. I always liked their 512 (I think) but a LOT of people complain about premature wear.

And that goes double for Pirellis. They disappear like melting butter if you drive hard on them, although they do give you stellar handling.

Yeah I was just going by what Fai told me. The pirelli pzero nero M&S were 100 more than the falken 912s, but then there is a
$100 rebate on them. He said the pirellis with the rebate wear slower and were a better all around tire for the price they are now (maybe not the better deal without the rebate however)

My rule of thumb is to buy up, so if you can get a premium product at a bargain price, then do it. When will you be able to afford to do it again?

The PROBLEM is if a tire blows. Chances are if you have to pay to replace it, you won't have a sale price or rebate to lean on.
