The invasion was my first time at the drags when I actually raced. I had no idea what I was doing, the first run I ended up getting 17.4 and the second time I got 17.0

If I went again I know I could have gotten 16.5ish...

Is this normal for a stock 1g tsi awd? Or is there a possible boost leak or something else?

I think it's lower, around the 15second mark. Inexperience plays a big factor when drag racing. Practice makes perfect, so just keep practicing.

Wow. Yes, that's quite high for a 1G AWD.

I ran 15 flat on a stock 1G FWD in the 1/4 at 15psi

Post up your slip.

I heard awd stock should still get a 14.-- fwd's are usually low mid 15's There are alot of factors that play into your time. My first time was 18.25 in a neon.

This year will be fun chasing 13's now for my fwd.

2g awd, Back to dsms here I come.

You probably just bogged the launch and had boost leaks. Those are two things anyone can always practice fixing! tongue

That 60ft is worse than a bad run in my FWD!
You just need some practice to not bog the launch.

I bench race that if you fixed just the 60ft, you'd be a low 15.

Alrighty smile What should I have it around?

Somebody told me something about "hacking" my stock intake. What did they mean by this by the way?

Yes first time... It was just pitiful, got to start somewhere. Broken linkage(2nd run I managed to kinda zip tie it together so I could get it in, but that just broke), hitting crazy high boost for my setup. Last run I took the boost controller out completely.

Substantially better numbers comming soon!!

I wish you luck, I hope I can get something good too. 14 would be perfect for me but it's going to take quite a bit of practice.

I was expecting to look a the time slip and see 14 something and BLAH a 17!?! I almost drove my car into a pole :S

You don't, Rob. That only happens when the boost is up too high.
Do some research about free mods and first mods, there is lots of information on here and also in a google, to get you started.

Ive been told to run up to 20 21 psi on race gas,
OR 17 18 with a reqired pump

But I'm just going with larger injectors and a matching eprom for now,

Brian, I don't mean to be overly critical, but those times on that setup... I'd say its time for a complete re-evaluation of your setup.

Rev it at launch. Don't be afraid to run it up to 5000rpm, slip the clutch out quickly and put your foot down quick when it starts to grab.
Obviously make sure your drivetrain is up to the task.

How can one keep the car from bogging on a launch?

I've tried in the car a few times but always bog the car. Actually one time I smoked the clutch REALLY good.

I was launching at about 3k rpm. The 2nd slip I was reaching down to turn off my a/c and the lights started to go so I launched from like 1k rpm.

I think most guys launch at higher rpms's than that.

On a completely stock car with stock clutch you should be able to cut 1.8 60 foots.

I noticed a lot of guys not reving it too high, and letting the clutch out TOO quick, causing a nice bog.

If you want to keep the revs low, then slip the clutch enough so you don't bog, i.e. keep that momentum going.

Other than that, look a few posts up and do what Jamie says. You want to slip the clutch a tad to take up the slack in the drivetrain, and then just plant it.

When I launch my car, my right foot is completely down, and left foot is completely off the clutch within the first 2 to 3 feet of the car moving.

If your making gobs of power, get ready to hit 2nd clean and fast. It's all about the 1/8th. Hitting 3rd and 4th is pretty straight forward.

First of all, that's a lower RPM than what I launch my FWD at. You need to launch much higher to bite twice the pavement.
Every car is different - get a feel for it and find out what works. At some RPM it will stop bogging, and if it's burning the clutch then you are not slipping it fast enough.
Find the balance.

Second, your ET has nothing to do with your reaction time.
You're not bracket racing, so just take it easy and practice the launch - worry about cutting a good reaction time later.

[benchrace]Take whatever gains you want to make in your 60ft, double it, and remove it from your ET. tu[/benchrace]

Do exactly what Reza is saying, I just watched a bunch of the invasion vids & defently some very bad launches (ie mostly bogged huge).

Just takes practice, I was in the same boat when I went from street tires to drag radials in fwd mode. I would bog the DR's huge at first. I had to concentrate hard on keeping my foot into the gas while slipping the clutch (as I was use to backing off with wheel spin). But after a few runs I got the hang of it. Probably started off around 50% throttle with a 4750rpm launch rpm (remember these aren't big V8's that have instant torque down low in the rpm range) & stepped it up to 85-90% throttle, still giving a nice slip while going WOT for a good launch.

If you guys have logging ability, I found it helped to look at the previous run & see what the rpms were dipping to on the launch before they start to climb again. At first they would dip to the 1500rpm mark, which is way to low. My goal was to have them dip no lower then 3000 rpms. If you can do that, your starting to get the hang of it. Once I got the hang of it rpms dipped to maybe 3500-4000 range at lowest.

Just remember to slip the clutch, dumping the clutch doesn't help anything.

Thanks for the tips everyone smile I'm going back to the drags Thursday with a friend of mine. Anybody else going that day? I think Brian said he was.

Here's a video to display what Daren is talking about....

It also looks like you're missing 6-7 mph for a stock Talon. Make sure it's running right (boost leaks, tune up, tire pressure, etc.) before you go back to the track.

I'm going to check my tire pressures etc when I get home from work. Also going to head over to Canadian Tire tonight and buy some stuff to make a boost leak tester, I tested before but couldnt find anything.

Michael I think that was probably because I was launching terrible. Theres a video of my first launch, I'm the tealish color 1g.

are you guys launching from first gear?? i would do it from 2nd, then you got less shifts to worry about.. but you need a good clutch for that, and i use an aluminum flywheel.
