Hmm, I've heard launching from 2nd gear is worse. It causes more of a bog even with a high rmp launch. I'm going back Thursday so I'll try everything. I just don't want to stall on the line and look like a complete idiot.

2nd gear launch??? I thought we didnt want him to bog lol!
Rob we got plenty of backroads out here to practice a launch wink
Just dont be reckless or speed smile
Personally I wouldnt practice something like this untill your ready to shell out on clutches and possibly the driveline. Its fun to give a try once now and then though laugh

Lol tongue

Louis do you know how much a good clutch will cost me? I'll be using it with an evo3 big 16g in a month or so.

Mines slipping a bit and I don't want more power when it's already screwed.

I got to thinking clutches were more than that, not bad at all, decent clutch+flywheel would be like 700-800 then?

Okay guys went today and ran a few times. Ended up killing a genesis coupe for my best time. Had him back a full second or so. Remember I'm still trying to figure everything out.

Best Slip -

R/T .256
60 2.151
330 6.309
1/8 9.812
MPH 70.66
1000 .000
1/4 15.313
MPH 89.40

I'm going to try to shoot for a 14.9 before I buy my mods. Is this possible for a stock 1g AWD TSi?

Rob, if your car is indeed bone stock, that is certainly a respectable time. Complete bench racer here, but for every .1 you can shave from the 60' .2 usually comes off the 1/4 ET. Now there is certainly room for a couple tenths improvement in your 60' so 14.9 is definitely doable. All it would really take is a 1.9 60' and you will break into those 14s...

I can't wait until next Thursday or Friday. I'm going to try to break into the 14s.

Also, the car is completely stock with not one upgrade. I've done about 5 passes total. 2 of them were on the day of the invasion and 3 today.

Thankyou for the tips smile They help a lot as I'm just learning.

How packed was it today? I don't really want to go when there's other competition going on and we have to share the strip.

Hey Rob, Yeah I was with the Mustang and the Genesis and the Focus. Also the S2000 and the Subaru were with us. A few guys from Guelphs Finest. It was nice that you didnt have to wait long to do a run lastnight.

It was nice to break into the 15's lastnight. Now just gotta get the new goodies in under the hood and then we will see what we can do wink

By the way, I never understood "dumping a clutch" how fast do you have to let it out to consider it "dumping" ? like hammer the gas and just let your foot come completely off the clutch as its engaging???

that's a good time Rob! You're definitely getting it down there!
Launching AWD is tricky, it will take practice, but as you can see your practice is paying off already!

Thankyou!! Finding some difficulty getting a great 60. My best is 2.1 and my goal is 1.9. Do I just step on it completely when the light before green hits then slip the clutch?

If not do you know what RPM would be good to launch at and shift at? I was shifting at 6k.

Rob, don't quote me, but I am pretty sure Steve Kinnaird could burn you a chip with a stutterbox. That would let you hold your foot to the floor for the launch, and your revs would be limited by the chip...

Rob, did some playing around with my 2G. Sweet spot of a decent launch is 4500-5000rpm, maybe even 5500.

Most people have a stutter box rpm set to 5k or 5500. It's a pretty decent spot for it. A burnt chip is a good idea when you get the rest of your setup
